I had a bit of time in Strömstad before taking the Flixbus down to Gothenburg. So instead of basking in the beautiful sunshine all day, I thought I'd head down to the quayside and take one of the ferries over to the Koster Islands.

And I'm so glad I did! What a beautiful part of the world. They are like Sweden's own paradise islands!

In this video, I'll show you some of Strömstad, the ferry itself and the trip over to the islands. We'll enjoy some stunning scenery on the way and of course I'll tell you how much it all cost. I think you'll be surprised how cheap it was (for this part of the world!).

I only had a quick visit there, but I absolutely loved it. Such a charming little town! I’d definitely love to go back and spend some more time there properly. 🇸🇪❤️

I am from Norway and Sarpsborg. From 2011 to 2015 i worked in a Company and we had a contract with a visit 4 times a year at Ekenäs Hotel at South Koster Island for a regularly maintenance’s work.
It was fun to go there of season and a struggle in the summer with all the tourists. Many nice memories from that time.

Thanks Mark for an absolutely superb video. Superb not just for the scenery but. EVEN MORE IMPORTANTLY, for your explanation of västtrafik.
Yes, västtrafik does have 900+ routes run by 1,857 buses, 101 trains, 263 trams [all in Gothenburg] and 36 boats [spread out all along the coast between Gothenburg and Stromstad}. All 900+ routes (whatever the mode of transport) are subject to the same fares and ticketing system. About 20 years ago I had a one day ‘all zones’ ticket for the västtrafik region. I went from Gothenburg to Stromstad on the 870 bus. Round the Islands on the 899 boat, and then back to Gothenburg on the stopping train service.. In the evening I rode the Gothenburg trams.

Sailed out of Stockholm on a cruise 3 years ago, and it was spectacular, sailing between all the islands. Would recommend.

Wow Mark. I really enjoyed this episode. Having grown up in Sweden as a teenager (I speak the language) I was super impressed that you pronounced Strömstad properly. You’ve also given me some food for thought for a vlog series for my own channel. Shhh! Mustn’t give the game away 😉

I’m so jealous, would love to explore Sweden and look at the weather you had 😊 my Dad has been there for a cross country ski holiday, from what he said everyone seems much more of an outdoor lifestyle, certainly cross-country skiing very popular in the winter, I used to go cross country skiing in forests near my hometown of Stonehaven, but snow is rare nowhere sadly
