Living in Vancouver feels like a dainty sentiment.

Beautiful, aesthetic, tender. But it’s inauthentic and insubstantial, not deeply rooted.

My sister was raised here and came to visit . She lives in Calgary now . She said Vancity is so beautiful but it seens like a hard city to live in - traffic, pricey, people feel crammed together .....but dam what gorgeous nature.

I love Vancouver ❤❤❤❤

Hi Sebastian: You said, “maybe it has something to do with the weather.” My classmate from Ontario said, “I love skiing. I love going out to the snow, but I don’t want the snow to come to me.” He’s right. I take one look at news of the Ontario blizzards this winter and then the mild snowless winter with sunny skies we’re having here in Vancouver now and it’s quite evident to me where I want to reside. True, the cost of living here is way higher, but it’s not a static obstacle.The municipal and provincial governments with private sector developers like Bob Rennie, Westbank Projects, SHAPE, Ivanhoé Cambridge, Concord Pacific, and so on are all grappling with affordable housing as a chronic ailment and not accepting it as a terminal prognosis for Greater Vancouver. Strangely, one of the solutions may come from affordable vehicles. If it does work out that some of the new electric vehicles coming in from China will be under twenty thousand dollars, I can immediately see that as a student saving on a car purchase will let me divert more money into my education and have more money saved after I graduate to put into a new home. More new housing will lead to steady jobs in construction and every new development will need to be filled with appliances and furnishings from local manufacturers. I can only view these benefits from my own financial perspective, but they are real and not just some philosophical musings from transient politicians. Last year I asked another classmate why she moved here from New Brunswick and what she said kind of surprised me. She said back East they hear stories about this land faraway (which is true considering a train ride across Canada will be like crossing dozens of small countries in Europe) and those around her do not see Vancouver as part of Canada like other cities, but rather like a “Monte Carlo,” a “Singapore,” a “Hong Kong”…a “city state” by the sea…a “foreign” land so unlike their own and the only one in the world where they can immigrate to and try a new life without needing a passport. ❤Diane, Vancouver, Canada. Vancouver is a very expensive city. This is the issue that a lot of people have is the financial cost.

I like that you touch on the economics. When I had low skills, I made minimum wage. But I got schooled and the gold career followed right away. I love it here.

It can’t ever be a mistake to move somewhere we don’t know, it’s a lived experience!

I love Vancouver dearly, but even if I could afford to live there…I wouldn’t 😂

Vancouver is a great place to visit or truly enjoy living in if you really have the financial means to do so but otherwise for a lot of the reasons mentioned in your video is why I never made the move. I'm from Montreal which also has so many drawbacks but so far it has not gotten so unbearable yet for me to tolerate to say enough  and move out west. All of my friends who left Montreal to move to Vancouver actually all moved back within 10 years. Government corruption when it comes to allocated contracts pertaining to infrastructure and the weather are the two main problems when it comes to living in Montreal and as I am getting older though it is becoming harder to live here so who knows what the future holds for me and the other retirees of Montreal who don't have the means to leave !

I hated the traffic deterrent.  So I moved to Courtenay, closer to nature.  Absolutely no regrets.
Born in Burnaby I was a Vancouver resident for 30 years.  I had a consulting business from home office.  My clients and government contacts learned to go without face-to-face during pandemic.   I have already explored all of Vancouver.

Thank you for the clear summary. I liked your point that Vancouver can be either a good or a bad place to live depending on your skills and stage of life. You also mentioned that some neighborhoods in Vancouver have held their prices—could you clarify which neighborhoods you were referring to?

Great perspective on Vancouver. Choose your evils. I am from the East Coast and we have another set of "issues". It all depends what's important to you specifically. Vancouver is not for me but works for my family

Here is the list on why you would move to Vancouver: mild winters, that's the end of the list.

The mild climate, along with being able to experience the vast ethnic diversity, a diversity that's been inclusive since I've lived here, is amazing. If you are tired of the city, a short trip gets you into amazing wilderness with trails to hike on year around. How much income you have, plays a role, it's not cheap to live here, but that's for a reason, it's high cost due to the livability of the greater Vancouver area.

Gloomy weather, high taxes that funds safe injection sites and drugs. Inefficient Healthcare. Career prospects are limited and generally low salaries. Highest gas price in Canada. I remember people saying we can hike, ski, fish, cycle, climb in Vancouver. I didn't have the time and money as I was working two jobs from 9am-11pm like many typical immigrants.
