They're Wrong About Living in Vancouver, But Not About All of It

People researching living in Vancouver are still getting outdated information. Old Reddit threads. Old headlines. Old warnings forwarded every time someone asks about moving to Vancouver.

I rechecked the complaints that keep coming up around living in Vancouver BC. Five of those takes simply no longer hold up. Two still do for some people who live in Vancouver.

That split is the key. If you are trying to read Vancouver living, the cost of living, or the housing market off a leftover feed, you are late on the facts and early on the panic. Vancouver BC is no longer the city that those old posts describe....some are still on point, but most no longer hold true.

If living in British Columbia is actually in the cards, including buying a home in Vancouver, start with here with the current reality. Not the 2022 one.

"London, England" - important clarification so no one can mistake it by the vibrant world-metropole of London, Ontario 🙏

@hammertimee777 1 month ago

I find that in Vancouver real estate, buyers have to make a lot of sacrifices if they want one thing. For example, if you want to be closer to the city, you must sacrifice on space, land size, and price. In LA, you can still get relatively large size lots close to the city without sacrificing much. If you want space and land size in Metro Vancouver, you must live very far away in Langley, Abbotsford or maybe West Vancouver. It's all about sacrifices. There's no in between. You take one and you forgo the others.

Love your channel.

Question: Do you/have you worked with interested Ontario buyers who'd like to move-in to their property in say 5 years? Ie starts out as an investment property (tenanted) but becomes their personal residence within 5 years? If so I'd be interested to hear strategy/experience with that

Thanks for this video. I am thinking of moving to Vancouver next year. I'm single and work from home and don't have a car so I would like to move to a walkable neighbourhood. Which neighbourhoods would you recommend?

is there Bike Shares outside of Vancouver such as Burnaby, Richmond, New West, Coquitlam? or only in Vanc proper?

@Colleen-97 1 month ago

I know about the lower mainland it's more like rain from late October to early May. The big complaint I've heard for those that have there in many years complain that are condos are getting too high and they don't accept people wanting to live in Vancouver and not in Port Coquitlam. There's another myth is that living in Victoria is cheaper than Vancouver and they are so wrong. When going by neighborhoods to it's the same or more. I don't know about other cities but there are many people here have dogs, and even cats on leashes, and love to see them.

Ah, great to remember the hate comments in your other videos aren't the whole truth. 🤭

I will mention that the traffic is deliberately made worse by the City of Vancouver Mayor and staff. Have a look at the ridiculous narrowing of Burrard and Granville street bridges by bike lanes. Bike lanes could have been put in taking far less room, but Vancouver Mayors have been famous for the “war on cars” with former “Mayor Moonbeam” being the worst. He removed the “no left turn between 7-9am & 3-6pm” on Granville, specifically to frustrate commuters and turn Granville into a one lane street. They also took away parking around the hospitals and medical corridors for bike lanes. Who takes their bike to the ER? Look at the West End and beach ave, the dead-ending of Point Grey Road where Mayor Moonbeam and his supporters live. That’s just a few of the MANY things Vancouver has done in it’s war on cars. Bike lanes have their place, but it could have been done so much better.

Come on Sebastian, we are still mentioning these "livability rankings"?? People still believe these? The "move to Alberta" phenomena has always been there and it is cyclical...in my circle of acquaintances, usually many that move desire to come back after a couple of Alberta winters under their belt 😁....Finally, myths usually are born for a reason, there is always an element of truth in them...On a worldwide perspective, Vancouver remains an extremely expensive city in relation to the salaries and economic opportunities and far, way far from being a truly world class city (economy, arts and entertainment, culture, etc...).

I really don’t know what you are talking about?!?
My family has been living in Vancouver for 30 years,both of my kids were born and raised in Vancouver and almost everything you are talking about is wrong.
But it can be subjective because it depends who you are, what your “accent” is from, your last name, and if you are the “flavour” of the month,…..
I don’t want to go deeper into education and health care, but just one thing really bothers me during all of these years it is that Canadians one day say hi to you and next day pretend they don’t know you ?! After 25 years in same building,same neighborhood,same supermarket,…..?!? Why?!
It must be some Canadian “thing”?!?
For 30 years my family was never invited to a Canadian family’s home even though we were very friendly,open and wanted to assimilate in Canadian society
The weather couldn’t be more unpleasant but people from Vancouver are much worse 🤯🤬
There are certainly friendly communities for Anglo Saxon descent only ,Indians only ,Chinese only ,Asian only and they are segregated.
Otherwise you’re not accepted or welcome in BC.
Like an immigrant from Europe I have never felt welcome in Vancouver
Generally from personal experience living for 30 years in Vancouver, Canadians are very bad people who are taking advantage of unfortunate people
Sorry 😢🇨🇦
