Those two tracks are fire. The y got XG tape 4 which consists of 5 separate videos. Even better than these
@goodfella1401 2 weeks ago (edited)
They actually have a bunch of references. Slick Rick & Doug E. Fresh, Havoc from Mobb Deep, Souls Of Mischief, Wu-Tang Clan, MC Lyte, Bizzy Bone from Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, TLC, Luniz, Ruff Ryders, J. Cole, Anderson. Paak, Cordae, TLC, A Tribe Called Quest and Tupac. They even have a reference to Mark Wahlberg when he was still Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch. Plus John Wick, Captain America, and Maya mention the word Super Saiyan from the Dragon Ball universe.
It's also why you see an American school bus in the video. See, they went back in time to bring us old-school hip hop to basically tell us that XG is gonna change the game, like the 90s Golden Era of hip hop forever changed the game in music. But TAPE A also starts what TAPE B continues. More references, but this time to a later era in hip hop. Names like Nore aka Noreaga, Pharaoh Monch, The Neptunes, Fat Joe (Terror Squad), Mariah Carey/Nick Cannon, Jay-Z, NWA, MTV's "Wild 'N Out"
You can basically say that TAPE A covers hip hop from 1986 - 1997 and TAPE B covers hip hop from 1998 - 2009. How hip hop started to be seen as a real genre in the 1980s because you had for instance Def Jam. How the new school then took over, and some names from that era evolved and helped define that era. How the mid-90s led to it becoming a genre that was getting big worldwide. To how it then became the most popular genre in the world in the 2000s.
And XG could follow that same trajectory but as a group. From making a little bit of noise, to starting to get recognized by an audience and their peers, to then gaining a global fanbase through great word of mouth. And hopefully soon we get to the new "era" of XG taking over the world and truly changing the game by leaving a permanent imprint in music by bcoming the group that paved their own way and kicked open new doors that used to be closed

ALPHAZ ON DECK 🐺🐺🐺
First of all: Oldschool in an old schoolbus
If we ate the last tape then no crumbs Left tonight 'Cuz we got what it takes to rock the mic 𝐑𝐈𝐆𝐇𝐓-> Slick Rick (Doug E.Fresh) - La-di-da-di , Maya 's eye patch in the prevoious cypher could be reference to him or Roc the Mic -Beanie Sigel & Freeway/the chorus also has a ref to their song Left - Right
The duo dynamic wreak havoc on the scene -> Dynamic duo is a famous Hip Hop korean Duo // Wreak Havoc - The White Shadow of Norway (Ft. Kool G Rap, War Generalz & Marcanum X)
Maya, Harvey be getting busy like Bone in harmony -> Bizzy Bone is a member of Bone Thugs-N-Harmony
But, honestly there's no such thing as mediocrе heat -> Basket ball bar about Miami Heat the team was called mediocre and ref to J. Cole as he helped to sign Caleb Martin.
The nerve on these girls tryna' pop off on a J Cole beat -> Maya previous cypher was on a J.cole beat, Two tens is also a J.cole beat
I can do this all day, no cap, till infinity -> Marvel's Captain America catchphrase reference// Til' Infinity can be another J cole reference from is 2nd mixtape The Warm Up track t'il infinity he used a sample of 93 til infinity-Souls of Mischief .
So they basically say they can throw for fun J .cole refs all day long.
0:49 (Never forget the beginner's humility even in a new scenery)JPN -> YT comment : is derived from a Japanese proverb Never forget the beginner's humility It means no matter how famous you become, don't forget your rookie mindset and stay humble. Quick reminder of Harvey previous verse in this back and forth : " make'em big mad but do it humbly"
Stick with the shots like John Wick when I'm killin' it -> Movies reference (John Wick is basically the ultimate hitman : skill full, focused and determined on his task, lethal precision) - In the John Wick franchise they used to make a lot of references to classic movie like the girls are doing classic Hip Hop reference .
0:57 Stats stackin' immaculately, super saiyan, slayin' it (Level to be raised again to the next Layer)JPN -> manga DBZ ref to illustrate that as a saiyan they are "pushin' xp" and are getting better and better and reached the next level "super saiyan" and will keep improving.
1:01 (show us what you’ve got again , it’s a remix of a Paak’Dae hit)KR -> paying homage to the artists,Two tens is a Cordae feat Paak remix
1:04 We don't sleep on bars or wordplay (that’s right this is top tier)KR
[Chorus: Harvey, Maya] 1:09 (What's so crazy about this two asian kids)KR
1:11 If we ate the last tape (it’s another eating show like XG’s 3 meals a day)KR -> reference to their reality show that was about cooking their own meals in a traditional way.
1:19 (If you leave it to us,it will be ok )JPN 1:22 (We will eat the Beat, leaving nothing)JPN -> In Japanese to close the trilingual bars around the ate and left no crumb theme
Look, two tens tag team, double trouble -> hip hop duo reference : Tag Team is a Duo composed by Cecil Glenn (DC the Brain Supreme) and Steve Gibson (Steve Rolln) - Double trouble is a duo composed by LiL Rodney Cee and KK RockWell who appeared in the movie Wild Style (hip hop movie classic)
Pre G O D's that means we on the come up -> reference to 2 lines from Maya in tape 2 (Underdog pre G-O-D/ Maya be on the come up)
Still shootin' stars, bang-bang, keep shinin' on 'em -> ref to their song shooting star and the hook "So shinin', n' shinin', n' shinin' for sure"
That's my ride or die on my side, plus I got 5 on it -> ride or die is a reference to their song Left Right hook about the fandom "Alphaz, Alphaz, we gon' ride or die" //also to 2Pac - Hail Mary // I got 5 on it is about the other 5 members but also an obvious one = Luniz.
I said two tens times that we keep it hundred -> Math Bar because why not to say that adding them as 10 the quality increase exponentially 10² = 100.
1:44 That's the purpose (But it's just the beginning)JPN -> that's a catchphrase they used a lot to say it's just the beggining of the journey.
Two tens or cool kids -> a last one on the duo reference theme The Cool Kids are an American hip hop duo composed of rappers Sir Michael Rocks and Chuck Inglish
1:53 Who can do this ( don’t talk about topics you can't talk about)KR
Rough necks 'bout to wreck shop 'cause a ruckus rap suplex ->Roughnecks - Obie Trice Wreck Shop - Run DMC - Wu-Tang Clan - Bring Da Ruckus - the Wrestling ref that was already used in Mascara : "Dump you like a suplex"
Who got the juice? (Deuces) -> Juice another 2Pac reference.
You can't say that they have no style,no technique and rap with 2 left feet, still bonus point if you catch the ref.

What a fire reaction! This guy gets it.
Edit: the pause right after they say “got 5 on it” asking for some references was peak.

Jurin recently even got a shout-out from Method Man himself on camera for her rap song PS118 that she did with Rapsody last year. This was after XG had already gotten shout-outs from JID, Rapsody, Cordae, AWICH and Chili from TLC. Plus a bunch of rappers in the Asian hip hop community like Jay Park, Ozworld, AI, and Verbal who is part of the big Japanese hip hop trio m-Flo. XG even used a sample of m-Flo in their song IYKYK

Recommend these two from XG the first one is Leader XG Jurin with Rapsody PS118 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IRXAUlcBgIk
the 2nd one is XG all 4 members doing PS118 you saw them perform this song when you did the HITC LA Show

TAPE 4 has 5 videos. One video for all four rappers, and then one with all 4 of them called Trampoline
@jameskerr3257 12 days ago
You made the comment about needing more references, but just pay attention to a lot of their music and bars and you actually will hear a lot of references and a lot of American hip-hop references.

because no one knew what to make of them, being Asian but doing Hip Hop and R&b, well just about everything,
still they fight through the stero types , they have been handed nothing like Some other groups with less talent
but they keep shinning through, this next era of XG is going be exciting they have taken control of just about
everything XG,
