17 things I find truly chic as a professional stylist and most of them cost nothing. From aging naturally and signature scents to vintage pieces, minimal makeup and quiet luxury, real chic is the opposite of what the fashion industry sells us. This video covers the timeless habits, mindsets and style choices that create genuine elegance and lasting personal style. No trends, no logos, no rules. Just the principles that actually make women look and feel incredible at any age.

I am 72. My hair is all white, and I haven't worn makeup for years. I am slim, fit and well. My boyfriend 9 years my junior doesn't complain. I am proud to be the age I am.

Aging naturally: Because of my job I happened to spend many, many sunday mornings in the greek city of Thessaloniki. I became obsessed with watching the crowds of really elegant old ladies drinking coffee on the seafront promenade after church. They were so well dressed, so stylish, and they had this air of « yes, here I am, after a long life, after tending to my husband and children, after a busy career, just enjoying life, friends and a well deserved cup of coffee in the sunshine.» They had this really specific air of belonging and worth…it is hard to define, but they were really a class of their own.

Long hair on an older woman can be very chic and elegant if worn pulled back in a French roll or a bun I think. It can be very classic and elegant.
I do agree with your ideas.

I love the European way of aging. It is elegant and not fear based.

I used to dress very simply in the 90s because I couldn’t afford many clothes. I would choose cream tops, black or navy trousers, navy or black jackets and simple shoes. Somehow it looked very chic. I am paring things back again now as I went a bit ‘Salvador Dali’ with patterns and colour in the 2010s 😂 However, I love the ‘messy chic’ style that rebels against the rather prim ‘clean girl’ looks that have been in for a while. It adds a bit of personality!

At 58 my style has not changed since I was a teenager. I’m called old fashioned a lot , but it’s me 😊

At 62, and as a woman who loves fashion, and even yes, some trends… I’m so glad just to hear more people talking about this. I plan to age totally naturally. I love the sun and go out in spurts of 20 minutes at a time in the spring without any SPF on to get a lovely color and I do that every once in a while through the summer to keep my glow! I love the way I look with a spring and summer tan, and I don’t wanna put chemicals all over body! I will not put any chemicals under my skin or do any facelifts or body list of any sort… I work out every day, eat really healthy, do some strength training, minister to young people which keeps me really young, and just smile a lot! I do think that being kind and loving and smilie… really makes you look beautiful… I also think we should just be so grateful to God that we do get to age. Those of us who get to! I pray I can stay in good enough shape to live along and healthy life, or until the Lord decides it’s my time to be with him!

Absolutely true. We become ourselves more, and feel more centered, which radiates as confidence, whether we wear flattering or unflattering clothing.

I agree with you 100% I stopped coloring my hair three years ago and it is a silver gray. I really like it because I’ve always had dark hair. The light hair is refreshing. I take care of my skin and I don’t wear face makeup I wear just lipstick some blush and have great skin. Triology is a new skin care product that I absolutely love it’s French of course😊

As a person working in service industry, I have met many people from different countries. Imo, the people can be considered as attractive and chic often behave very nicely despite of their age and nationality. They have that gentle and confident vibe which makes me feel really comfortable to communicate with. And you know what, those people also have great sense of fashion too. They don't wear trendy clothes but everything they wear looks good on them, and looks like...themselves. I believe all of those positive feelings I have on them come from the inside. They are polite, they are grace and they are confident in their style and their gestures. It is really similar to the quote that says love yourself first and love will find you.

I agree with all of this. I no longer jump on every new trend but evaluate each one to see if it works with my personal style. I’ve also embraced short hair, clean minimal nail polish and a signature scent.

Love this video! Thank you. I wear a vintage dress to every wedding or special event. I always feel unique and fabulous and get compliments every time. For anyone who has never worn beautiful vintage, I highly reccomend!

I really like all your points, Bridget. Re short hair - it never looked good on me, even as a young kid (which my mother discovered). In my 60s, I'm wearing my thick silver-grey hair long & layered, & mostly, nicely groomed - feel good & get compliments all the time. I agree with your point about having the confidence to wear it short. A good chic short style certainly beats in-between no-style hair, in my opinion. I love your work.

I love that the perfume shown in the "personal scent" portion is just called "Some Flowers" 😂 does what it says on the label, simple and clear, I like it

Very interesting video. Thank you! I feel like I have just naturally transitioned to these ideas as I’ve aged. I’m 67 and worked all my life in retail beauty. Seeing so many women struggling to stay young looking by any means, only makes me feel sad. I feel that I am at this age , completely free to be myself and love my choices.

@valeriee8579 5 months ago

Agreed. On most but short hair. Doesn't flatter everyone and can age considerably. Funny that you chose for your video that perfume (rare now) quelques fleurs l.original was my perfume in the 90s... memories 🥰

Really nice video. I think being chic also means wearing shapes that truly fit you and feel comfortable, instead of squeezing yourself into something that isn’t really you. Somehow, though, many people seem to forget this when it comes to shoes 😀

In my opinion, it’s not chic to squeeze your feet into shoes that can damage your toes over time. It’s a topic that’s often overlooked.
