Ever wonder why professional poker players seem so robotic and emotionless at massive final tables? 🤖

You are not alone. In this episode, I pull back the curtain on the high-stakes tournament scene. Drawing on my 22 years of experience grinding from the lowest cash games in Las Vegas to the highest stakes tournaments, I am breaking down exactly why the pros go into silent "combat mode" when the cameras turn on. We explore the massive differences between cash games and tournaments, the crushing pressure of final table pay jumps, and why giving off even the slightest tell to elite crushers like Jason Koon, Stephen Chidwick, or Alex Foxen can ruin a career year. Plus, we discuss the controversial reality of "timing tells," why shot clocks were created, and a potential new solution that could fix slow play forever.

This is rapidly becoming my favorite poker content. Very insightful, very well explained.
How about a video on how to study poker?
Maybe a video for cash game players and another one for tournament players are the skill sets are different.
Should be study shoving and calling ranges for 10BB stack first or deeper stack poker 100BB which is common in cash games and the first levels of tournaments.
Personally, I think studying 10-15BB calling and shoving ranges is the most important for tournament beginners because you get there every tournament and it is a far more impactful decision than wether to value value bet second pair on the river for 3BB in the first level.

I get it, they’re chasing single digit percentage edges in such high end games so they have to be on top of their game, make sure they’ve correctly calculated the branches of the solver for a given expression but that’s not what made poker fun for me when I started playing 15 years ago.

The 30 second shot clock has improved the game for both players and viewers. This should be implemented for all WSOP tournaments. And if the shot clock was in place for the WSOP tournaments, the obnoxious players like Martin Kabrhel and William Kassouf would have limited opportunity to waste time and act like a jackass. Not long ago, watching players like Doc Sand and many others in tournaments was like watching grass grow...!!!...But the shot clock has reduced the stupid waste of time by many players.

One compromise could be to ban hats, glasses, scarves, etc. The idea would that in order to be a good live player you not only have to have all the math but also the ability to hide tells. This would add a bit more entertainment value for those watching for entertainment or edutainment reasons. In the NFL, some players started wearing helmets with dark visors. This was good for them, but were ultimately banned because the fans wanted to see who they were paying to play. If the game ends up being statues dressed like the unabomber, then maybe thousands of people will watch for education, but millions will stop watching the robots.

I enjoy these topics that don't get discussed on other poker vlogs. Well done!

You should have been on the Hof list bro.

As someone who's accumulated over a million hands of poker, you've kind of seen it all in terms of how hands play out in real time by that point. Add in the fact that these players get used to winning big prizes and they're reportedly not taking home a ton of cash in reality, and you've got top MTT grinders who are probably just jaded by now and are perhaps eagerly looking to go home so they can pet their dog or kiss their wife.

I’d like to hear more about what poker pros are having a losing year…and which poker pros are backed by rich backers and really don’t take home what they appear to win…

I'd like to see you get your poker nerd on a bit, if you are asking. Take an interesting hand that was on stream. Take us through your thought process on each street in detail. Maybe through up some solver screen shots to illustrate your decisions. Or even why you diverged from what the solver chooses to do. For instance, a check raise semi bluff from the BB over three streets? Or even if you choose to donk on turn from OOP on an equity shifting card. Give it some thought!

a tournament with a super fast shot clock like 5 seconds pre 10 seconds post with no time banks would be amazing.

The same ego that drove them to success is the same ego that gets destroyed by bad runs. The lack of empathy you had for your opponents during their downswings that made you a success is what will leave you feeling empty when there is none for you. Very few have the self examination tools to overcome that and it creates humans completely void of natural human emotion like robots.
