Fleetwood Mac's Forgotten Psychedelic Blues Roots

Eric Haugen Guitar

Untangling the web of the great British electric blues players of the 60s is baffling. There’s so many lineup changes, bands breaking up and reforming with different names, that it's easy for some artists to slip through the cracks.
Sure there’s Cream, Hendrix, and of course Zeppelin.
So It may be a surprise to people of my generation and younger that early Fleetwood Mac, under the leadership of Peter Green is some deadly psyche blues shit.

For me Peter Green's FM has always been THE Fleetwood Mac.

The YouTube algorithm is a fickle thing. All I do in my free time is practice with online videos. In over a decade, I have found many great guitar channels, yet this one somehow eluded me. Since this video popped into my feed 10 days ago I have been addicted to this channel and its wealth of insights!

I'm glad you mentioned Danny Kirwan

Peter Green exhibited a direct connection between his heart, soul, hands and a higher power Peter tapped into something eternal that time couldn't erode. Expressive yet restrained mysterious yet deeply human showing tremendous touch and tone. Great video expressing Peter's life and playing a few compositions. You did well showing a love of Greens music and the man he was.

The live album from Boston is outrageous. That version of Green Manilishi is up there with Jimi's Fillmore "Machine Gun". Utterly terrifying and transcendant playing. It's on YT.

Not forgotten, not by a long shot. There is no Fleetwood Mac without Peter Green.

There is such a humility, simplicity, and musical brilliance that comes out in Eric's teaching. Thank you for sharing your wonderful gifts and insights.

Very nice. Great to see a younger generation paying tribute to our generations' guitar heroes.

You're playing Oh Well wrong by one note: the 2nd B should be a Bb. There's even footage on YT of PG playing it.

Discovered Peter Green on Hard Road. I was 12, or thereabouts. At 70, Peter Green is still my greatest guitar inspiration.
Thanks for this vid.

Roky was actually diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia in 1968. They were performing at the 1968 World's Fair in San Antonio and he began speaking gibberish. He was sent to a psychiatric hospital in Houston and was given excessive electroconvulsive therapy treatments involuntarily. In 1969, he was arrested for having one joint. He was looking at a 10 year stretch so he pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to avoid prison. He was sent to Austin State Hospital but escaped several times and was sent to a more secure facility (Rusk State Hospital in Rusk, Texas). He was there until 1972 and was again given excessive electroconvulsive therapy and Thorazine treatments against his will.

Dang Eric, when your hair is longer, and your beard is a little more scraggly, remove your glasses and you look a bit like Peter in the Fleetwood Mac era ! 😄😄

Lennon used albatross as the template for Sun King. The Beatles all loved Peter Green. Mick Fleetwood was also married to Jenny Boyd who was the younger sister of Pattie Boyd. She of course the famous wife of George Harrison and Eric Clapton , inspiration for Layla .
