Got several tags on Twitter letting me know that a Youtuber, Ray Mona, found the long lost music video and pilot episode of "Saban Moon" aka The American Sailor Moon show! Finally, we can watch this weird idea and figure out who made this and... well.. WHY?! On this episode of "What am I Watching" we're checking out Americas attempt to make their own version of this iconic series, Sailor Moon!

I do love that the adaptation carried over how useful Tuxedo Mask was in the series
1. Throw a rose
2. Give advice to Sailor Moon
3. Leave

Why am I looking at a Polly Pocket, Barbie Doll knockoff wannabe in Sailor Moon's rejected clothing?

My mom was a super huge sailor moon fan as a kid so I showed her the pilot and the first thing she said upon seeing the live action segment is "This is bullshit"

Robyn's rendition of Blue had me dying.

@ThomasMHead 4 years ago

Just: why? Why go to all that trouble? For...that?
Anyway--Robyn's singing and comedy at their expense are the best things to have come out of it.

Personally, I could listen to an entire music video of Robyn singing 'Blue' XD

The only interesting thing was the flying wheelchair that is awesome. Some of my clients would love it.

The "blue" and "WHO-" jokes just make me wanna see more parodies on this channel

I applaud Ray Mona for making the documentary but to also get her hands of the unaired pilot! This is a monumental discovery in Sailor Moon history! The Sailor Moon we know but the American remake version, we don't know the full story of its production until now. Lost media has always been a fascinating subject to me and its amazing to see Saban Moon resurfacing again after all these years

Bruh I got triggered with the name Blue for Mercury. SERIOUSLY!? BLUE!?! They could've gone for either Aqua or Wave ANYTHING! It just triggered me so hard it made me laugh!XD

Well. The reason it never came to be is because they knew what current year streaming companies don't understand. We don't want American versions of the original. We want the source material.

It's times like this that make me glad that we never got THIS version of Sailor Moon.
Although it does make me wonder how they would've handled a character like Chibiusa (AKA Rini)
since she's supposed to be from the future and is Usagi and Mamoru's daughter or even the Sailor Starlights,
as for the outer guardians I could see them taking a page from Power Rangers by making them evil at first but
become good guys later.

What most boggles my mind is not only did they go for the most stereotypical portrayal of those character archetypes, but they swapped them around. I mean, keeping Jupiter as the tomboy and Mercury as the smart one wouldn't have fixed the hot garbage way they portray the characters, but it would at least have made some logical sense.

The Sailor scouts were already stereotypes, but they gave the US Sailor scouts each others stereotypes. Also, couldn't they find a frickin' black cat for Luna! I think they were changing things up to change things up! Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon is a better live action adaption than this!
