âĄïž 158 km, a Grand Tour of the Massifs, and nearly 8 hours of flight.
From the outset, this flight quickly became a race against time as the winds gradually encroached upon the Mont Blanc massif.
My teammate and I maintained an excellent average speed for almost 6 hours, and our efficiency was undeniable: we passed key points at the right time, before the conditions deteriorated.
But by mid-afternoon, doubt crept in. The Aravis range also seemed to be starting to worsen, and there was still no guarantee that we would be able to complete this grand tour.
Towards the end, I pulled ahead of my colleague⊠but ultimately, he made the better decision: to shorten his flight and cut the route rather than stubbornly trying to finish the original flight plan.
For my part, I absolutely wanted to validate the last waypoint to transform this flight into a FAI triangle of over 150 km and perhaps improve my CFD ranking...
After more than 7 hours in the air, fatigue, impatience, and the pressure of these last few kilometers were finally going to weigh on my decisions. The Parmelan thermal ended with a spectacular asymmetric collapse and a frankly unpleasant passage.
Once I was out of the lower atmosphere, I tried one last time to push against the north wind⊠before finally giving up.
At that point, the enjoyment was gone. And I realized that it was rather absurd to push myself for what was ultimately a symbolic performance, when returning safely and meeting up with my teammate would be much more satisfying.
The weather had been a threat since the beginning of the flight. But towards the end, the biggest trap was perhaps in my own mind.
A good reminder of something easily forgotten in motocross: knowing when to stop can be a much better performance than gaining a few extra kilometers.

Le mĂȘme temps pour rester assis quand je prenais l'a330 pour rejoindre les Antilles...lol đŽsans les hĂŽtesses, le p'tit plat chaud, les toilettes etc. ..

Et en effet aprĂšs de nombreuses heures câest dur dâĂȘtre objectif sur son Ă©tat de fatigue et de savoir dire stop. Sans compter le biais cognitif du bouclage et de la bagnole !
Jâai fait aussi mon meilleur vol ce jour-lĂ (212km) en partant de la clusaz⊠je suis passĂ©e plus tard dans les bauges, le nord Ă©tait rentrĂ© bien fort depuis montgelas (grosse galĂšre pour revenir Ă Annecy). Jâai fait le mĂȘme retour du parmelan que toi mais jâai dĂ» poser Ă Thones (il fallait glisser sur dent du cruet pour avoir un meilleur appui et rejoindre beauregard, câest ce quâa fait mon collĂšgue de vol et lâoption Ă©tait clairement meilleure đ).
Sinon le parmelan est pas trop mĂ©chant en souslevent du nord (sans doute la forme aplatie du plateau), mais câest souvent mieux de suivre la crĂȘte jusquâau refuge et tu as le fidĂšle thermique au col du pertuis.

Le fait de relier des petits vols pour construire un grand vol est également un élément important car cela nécessite du temps pour y parvenir.
