The creator of Astartes was also responsible for the 40k Secret Level episode, which is why they feel so similar.

Just dropping this explanation:

The Marine didn't get his eye crushed. They just broke the outer layer of glass of his visor. The red parts inside are the optics that help them be such good single shot killers.
The guy who got shot by the other Astartes was part of the inquisition( you can see him in the beginning walking in the end of the corridor before they got on the boarding torpedo) and IF you listen very carefully you will hear how he says: EVACUATE THEM IMMEDIATELY. The big sphere that attacked them got linked with the one that was chained and the psyker connected to both of them. He was listening to them for information, but got corrupted and the Astartes next to him had to put him down......and his death wasn't overkill. Psykers in 40k, even low level ones can annihilate a space marine. They played it safe.

Anyway, great work on the clip.

All of this created by one man, it's incredible the levels of dedication and skill that were put into this.

Just to clarify the story a little bit.

The Astartes are sent to secure the 2nd ball, they already have one captured aboard their ship.
Some Humans being led by two psykers are guarding the 2nd ball, which the Astartes take care of.

The Psyker inquisitor is tying to read the mind of the 1st captured ball, when he overhears them communicating
2nd: Who's here? I have failed.

1st ball: We have all failed. The Astartes defy our touch.

2nd ball: You must return. Break your seal.

1st ball: It's impossible.

2nd ball: We will never survive.

1st ball: You must. Take their bodies

The Inquisitor attempts to warn them, but he is possessed, which is why he is brutally killed in record speed, possessions are not to be taken lightly, within seconds that ship could be packed to the rafters with demons of all kinds if not dealt with appropriately.

The 2nd Ball takes the Astartes into the warp, but something breaks it's connection to them, spitting them out in that giant valley you see at the end with the giant skeleton dudes on their thrones.

Games Workshop tried many times to stop this fan film from being made, but it was so good and so successful, they ended up hiring Syama, and now his influence is felt everywhere in 40K, he designed the visual and atmospheric tone for Warhammer animations, which is so cool considering he was just a fan, who utilised his talents and time. He worked on the secret level episode, and no doubt will probably end up working alongside Henry Cavill whenever his 40K series or movie comes out.

Fun fact: The Retributors has become the first fan made space marine chapter to be officially announced as part of the WH40k canon and lore

This is the dialogue between the orbs
"...no escape. I have failed brother."
'We have all failed. The Astartes deny our touch. You must return, break your seal."
"Impossible, (I) will never survive."
"You must! Take them!"

@Mill_Wrong 1 year ago

the inquisitor being mer'd at the end was a mercy for his body and his soul. they more than likely had to wait for a melta or someone with an incinerator to come and completely render him safe.

Astartes introduced 40k to me. Drip fed me slowly and as my interest went up I got involved. Played about 10 games now, love this stuff.

@GuntherCloneC 1 year ago

Keep in mind, this entinre fan film (at the time) was done COMPLETELY by ONE person!

Who is there?

I have failed

Brother, we have ALL failed. The Astartes deny our touch. You must return, break your shield.

Impossible, will never survive.

You must! Take them!

RECALL THEM IMMEDIATELY!

As a relatively new Warhammer hobbyist (2 years), I can absolutely agree that the Warhammer community is THE most welcoming, informative, and supportive fan community ever. Everyone just wants to share what they love and they do so without feeling like they’re talking down to newbies.

Love you guys, been following your Warhammer journey and can’t wait to see more!

Perfectly shows just how menacing and powerful Space Marines are compared to normal Humans. Also perfectly portrays the silent mental fortitude of the Grey Knights when engaging warp shenanigans. They're getting blasted by psychic energy that would turn a normal mind to mush, but they just keep marching forward without a speck of fear or delay. Absolute Terran badassery.
"You have nothing to fear but misplaced mercy."

@1:35 I felt that in my soul.

Someone may have already mentioned it, but the items burning on their pauldrons are called Purity Seals. They burn in the presence of chaos energy. A Purity Seal takes the form of prayers or litanies evoked by a Chaplain. They are inscribed onto paper and then affixed to the Astartes armor with red or black wax, then coated with protective sealants. This was usually done in a ceremony before the battle. If you look closely at the beginning, before they enter the drop ship, the four veteran Marines enter the hangar with an ensemble of Space Marines waiting to honor them. It is more than likely the time and place where the Chaplain affixed their Seals.

I am to this day, still in awe, of the tatics, choreography, and visual story telling that was involved. The visuals have been mentioned numerous times, but the story telling is a masterpiece in screen writing. That is one of many reasons as to how one artist kicked off a whole new age for GamesWorkshop.

One of my personal favorites is how accurate this is towards the actually dress of the upper echelons/leadership. 8:01 Yeah, we see the fit Captain and SFC.

Someone get my man C-Smith a Redbull or something. Blud was snoozing 😴😂

For those who don't know how Bolters work; the guns the Space Marines were using, they essentially fire mini rockets. Those rockets impact, embed themselves withing the target, then explode.
