Modern cars are far too complicated and impossible to fix without spending stupid money.

I recently decided to change my aging 63 Plate Citroen DS3 which I had owned for 5 years, it was showing it's age, so with that in mind, some of the new Chinese looked really good value, so having fewd a couple of different models, the PCP seemed reasonable, was about to sign an order when "buyers remorse" kicked in, when I realised what the actual cost of 48 month PCP was, the thought scared the crap out of me.
So, I decided I will by another car, but definitely not new, am now the proud owner of a 2016 Peugeot 308 Allure 1.6 Blue HDI, I paid £3000 for it, it has full documented service history,12 months Mot & the previous owner had put 4 new tyres on before he trade it in, is up on miles @ 116k but that does not worry, the PSA/Ford Diesel engine is one of the engines made, I pay £20 road tax & is currently doing 74mpg.quite honestly I am more impressed with this car than any new car that I might purchased, by the way, I am from Huddersfield 😁👍

2 MK3 mondeos, a 55 reg 3 litre duretec,
And a 56 2.0 litre duretec.
Bullet proof just a full  service history.
My legendary garage says both they are a doddle to service.

Near Mansfield. Had our 2003 Rover 75 cdt since 2009. It has just over 250,000 miles on it. Same engine, same gearbox.
Also have a 2005 Rover 45 1.6 petrol since 2010. That has 135,000 miles on it. Had the head gasket replaced a few months after buying it and no trouble with it since.
Neither are pristine condition. They could do with some cosmetic work but they keep going.

I have a 1982 Volvo 345GL and a 1984 Volvo 340DL. To do a full service costs less than £100.

I bought my 2002 Mondeo in 2007. I still have it. It is serviced annually.  Still going strong

My 2007 mondeo petrol estate is now on 195000. Still going strong. Just regulator oil and filter changes

A Ford Mondeo anytime day or week as long as it's not a petrol Ecoboost, diesel EcoBlue and a Powershift autobox

Watching from Isle of Wight. You can pick up low mileage old cars here. Friend has 11 year old Vauxhall Astra with 40,000.

Good insight. I'm guessing that its the initial high cost of any new car that drives the PCP and finance game, and some people see never ending monthly payments, same as mobile phone contracts, as the easy option.
Thankfully, I've never needed to go down this road.
Property should be the only thing you borrow for, everything else, work for it.

But now governments are putting road tax up to high and insurance does the same and it still comes out cheaper but they are targeting to VOSA  MoT  station threatening them to fail older cars and charge crazy prices to fix what really doesn't need fixing or they'll revoke VOSA entitlements to do MOT's at there businesses

I am in Houston have 2005 Grand Am would luv to buy a new car but have a friend who retired from Nissan says new cars are not what they once were !! .
