After an overwhelming "guilty" verdict, I am returning to the OpenTTD 100 Year City Building Challenge for a massive redemption run. We are tackling Potato McWhiskey's famous scenario using strictly vanilla rules to see just how huge we can grow a single town in one century.

OpenTTD is a free, open-source business simulation game where players transport passengers and freight by road, rail, water, and air. It is a remake and expansion of Transport Tycoon Deluxe (1995) with enhanced features, including larger maps, custom AI, user-made content, improved UI, and multiplayer for up to 255 players. It's available completely for free from the Open TTD website.

and I just hear the words from the interview reverberate in my head: "Bridges and Tunnels are weird. They're more like Wormholes." This video really took that to its extreme and showcased how true that statement actually is...

When I recently installed OpenTTD for the first time...the game by default used non grid street layout, which made it harder for me to grow my cities. It took a few weeks and a helping hand from Master Hellish in the comment section to realize that you could customize this to 2x2, 3x3, etc.

1:56 - adding a depot to the schedule to unbunch
Through simply trying things out, I found that holding [Ctrl] while adding the depot to the schedule immediately adds it with the "unbunch" setting selected, similar to how using [Ctrl]-click on a regular station auto-sets "full load" for that station.

Hang on, you counted the population by the end of January 20230, not at the start of January 2030.
Since it grows every day, that means you got about 20-30 days of extra growth after the time should have ended!

You gotta do it again! :P

This has now become my favourite OpenTTD video of all time. I like the idea of using tunnels to steer the growth of towns, maybe this could be applied to the current or next season of the channel, i.e, to make sure they town growth doesn't create problems with the layout of industries and other tracks? Would one make significant money creating passenger and mail routes between the city centre and the suburbs?

Great video as always. I think if you do your first tunnels to 40 tiles or a little less it would be better since bigger buildings would be built sooner but I'd have to test it.

I think if you have integrated a passenger transportation system you could not not have grown that fast, but also made a hell of a lot more money in the process.
