The shock factor of waking up in Markarth was even bigger for me because it was the first time I'd been in Markarth ever 😂

This is my favorite Skyrim quest. It's fun to wonder if Martin Septim experienced anything similar.

I woke up in a graveyard after a night out once.

First time I did this quest, I was married to Ysolda. Unfortunately, Bethesda missed the opportunity to have unique dialogue, so the quest just continues like you and Ysolda are just acquaintances.

In Daggerfall there is a skill called "Giantish", which allows you to communicate with giants and make then non hostile. So they are smart enough to hold conversations

3 fun personal details regarding this quest:

1. Usually, whenever I do this quest, my character is so rich by the time they meet Deep-In-His-Cups, that paying the 10k gold is no biggie.

2. This quest is actually how I went to Markarth for the very first time. It was quite the disorienting experience.

3. So, a few weeks after this quest (both in game and irl), my highest level character (a good leaning "Argonian in body but raised Dunmer" Dragonborn named Taldus Dres) was doing some radiant quests for the Dawnguard (because Dunmer hate Vampires, and since Taldus was raised Dunmer, he shared that hatred). One of these radiant quests involved killing a vampire in Morvunskar, so Taldus went in, slaughtering everyone without much trouble (since he already had endgame gear). Then, he reached the main room where the portal to one of Sanguine's realms once was, and where the vampire made his throne. Taldus went in blasting fire spells left and right, killing most of the enemies easily, except for the vampire. Both of them went at eachother trading blows, went out of absolutely fucking nowhere, Sanguine shows up wielding an iron dagger and starts shanking and slashing at the vampire. 20 seconds later, the vampire drops dead, Sanguine starts looking around looking for something fun to do, and Taldus (me) just stands there completely stunned at what just happened.

It's literally just "The Hangover: Skyrim".

8:30 right before you fast travel to journey to Witchmist Grove, the guard talks about you slaying the Glenmoril Witches lmao. Thought that was a funny coincidence

I enjoy this quest a lot. It's definitely one I don't skip with any replay.

I honestly think sanguine is the most dangerous deadric prince, at least at the individual level, as with the others the danger is obvious. But with sanguine its wrapped in a cloak of seductive pleasure; turning a pleasent hobby into a destructive addiction.

I suspect that, in a game where Roleplay is a factor and yet, there are no choices on how this quest goes (or what kind of drunk your character is) that what "Sam" slipped into a drink was prolly a minor daedra or daedra spirit (the Daggerfall kind) that possessed you and cause all the mischief. And that'd be a good reason how / why your character acted the way they did while "drunk".

In my current playthrough, I was in Windhelm when I met Sam, about as far as possible as you get from Markarth in a major settlement. I also hadn’t yet been to Markarth, so my hungover Dragonborn also stopped the murder in the market as a bonus. She felt less bad about trashing the temple after saving a woman’s life (very easily, I might add). Almost like…she anticipated the event or something 😂

I saw that welkynd stone you pulled from the chest right before entering the grove!  Nice to see we use some of the same mods in our load order!

I definitely missed too much of this quest the first time I played it, by relying on the speech checks. Moira is marriage material and I don't wanna hear otherwise 😂

Don't you ever kill Deep-In-His-Cups ever again... if you don't want to pay just run from him but we shouldn't kill someone because we fucked them over and he's sad and mad 😔😔

In my head canon, I've grappled with the fact that I've arrived in markarth at the same time I blacked out. Currently, I go with the idea that the events took place in real time, but sanguine used his pocket realm to reset me in time, perhaps recognizing my significance to other daedra and aedra etc. No harm, no foul sorta
