Silent film directors were flamboyant pioneers, making up their technique as they went along. Filming 'indoor' sets on open outdoor lots and combating the elements, communicating with actors in spite of overwhelming distraction and deafening noise, directors (male and female) fashion great films out of chaos and confusion. Interviews include Bessie Love, Janet Gaynor, and King Vidor.

I get chill bumps every time I hear the music performed. Hearing Allan Dwan and all the other great Director's and people that literally began the film industry in Hollywood. Gloria Swanson always spoke very highly of Allan Dwan.
Such a treat to actually hear the voices of these very early pioneers of American film and to have it all narrated by James Mason only ads to the treat!
