He is important to bring our History too the Future Will not be another like him and his voice

I absolutely love his books. He's such a master story teller. What's great is that you can both read and listen to his books since he narrates a lot of his books with his awesome voice. I recently finished 1776 which was phenomenal and John Adams and Truman are both masterpieces. He really opened my eyes about Truman who for too long has been overshadowed by FDR.  A great American!!!

good program

Being a History major with a degree in Education, I concur with the opinion that teachers need to be respected much more highly. The wonderful teachers I had made my life for me, I will be forever in their debt because they taught me to love learning.

Two of my favorite people.
Unassuming yet compelled to assume by their all encompassing knowledge of thinking out
and contemplating the intimate learning and curiosity.
Finding jewels in mens souls.I feel so fulfilled by
the experience.

Charlie Rose had the BEST job on TV!

Thank you, David McCullough and Charlie Rose!

So good

So optimistic about what a great teacher can do, but the majority of our teaching schools ignore the single factor that defines all great teachers: they love learning and love part of that learning greatly.
One proof of love is professional accomplishment, but most states will not let accomplished professionals teach unless they get "official" teaching certificates. Most teaching classes are more focused on latest theories of learning in which love of topic plays no role.
Principals should be allowed to easily select professional achievers over certificate holders.

So glad to see him say that Winston Churchill was so important. Obama certainly did not think so.

I always thought of Jefferson like Robert Redford.

1999 and McCullough is talking about the teaching of American history being at an all time low. He would be absolutely appalled at the state of the teaching of American history today in 2026. If he saw what has happened to the Smithsonian he would be ashamed as many of us are.

Churchill did not just give the Lion its roar, he pulled Britain's tail so hard the whole world heard the thunder.

The Queen presumptive made the most important radio address, and the real Queen Consort the two best quotes, of World War Two. It will be a long, long, time before a grateful public forgets that.

I noticed how artfully Mr McCullough avoided any mention of the impact of the Bible in our country’s history. Each of the founding fathers, though not necessarily a believer in Christ, was steeped in scriptural knowledge, not just the classics. Ideas such as the sinfulness of humans, a supernatural creator, individual soul liberty, and the 3 branches of government are all based on biblical concepts.

Don’t know that Washington made a mistake to split his force. Tell me what a difference it would have made if he had 20,000 troops to receive the cannon of the British 400 ships?

The bark of the Patriarch.

Rose should let the brilliant McCullough speak, instead of interrupting so much. Rose is really a mediocrity and sort of creepy.
