Overcompensation/overcorretion seems to be the downfall for many.

I'm a single father. I raise my daughter alone. Trust me when i say i miss my baby mom everyday. It takes both parents to raise a child. The optimal environment. I'm thankful that my big sister has been filling the mother role to some extent

My father was a soft spoken, kind and gentle man. He didn't fit into the category one usually associates with "male role models", and yet he was one of the best examples of what one should be. He was handy, helpful, kind, supportive and he was always there for me and my family. Whenever any one of us needed help with anything at all, he would be there, and gladly so. He was always calm, he smiled a lot, and he fit into just about any social situation. He wasn't "dominant", because he didn't need to be, he was wise enough to realize if his ideas and thoughts were good ones, people would naturally agree with them when he made his case. I miss him a lot. I wish more people had role models like him. I think the world sound be a better place if they did.

I think the common thread is men who hate their mothers, but because that’s an unacceptable feeling to have towards your mother, they take their feelings out on all other women. Anecdotally, I’ve witnessed this with men who have strained or enmeshed relationships with their mothers regardless of whether or not the father was present.

I'm going to be very honest here. I was raised by a single mother for a good portion of my life (and even after she remarried when I was in my teens she was still basically a single mother). You are right that I have the upmost respect for everything she did raising me, but that was after a decade of working on myself to get rid of some really toxic values. In my 20s, I had a LOT of extremely toxic views on women. Was that my mother's fault? I don't think so, not directly at least. I don't think she "raised me wrong" but I think she had to be "so much" and so strong, that I took it as overbearing and because of it, I wanted to be "the one in control" in my early relationships (sort of a backlash against my upbringing). I took the wrong lessons from my childhood and definitely went down the wrong path, but fortunately, I didn't screw up too bad. I have a few very shallow, short relationships, and then got my act together, learned how to be a proper adult male with some great mentors and therapy, but it was hard work shedding all of those toxic ideals that I developed in my early adulthood.

I think it's not unlikely that, if you lack a romantic partner, you might overlook the worst behaviours in your son in some misplaced attempt at always ensuring he always loves you instead of resent you if you punish him.
I had a very interesting experience regarding this as my grandmother raised my father and uncle alone, and did a pretty good job as neither are sexist, but they became incredibly enmeshed with her and somewhat emotionally stunted. My mother suffered a lot in her marriage to my father as my grandmother always treated her as a threat and my father always caved in to my grandmother. I've often thought of my father and uncle as the opposite toxic end of the "lack of a father figure" spectrum.

Fathers should be more present in their children’s lives. That alone would solve a lot. And honestly, it might not be a bad thing that more women are choosing to be childfree. Better to be childfree than to raise a child alone without proper support. Because in some cases, you end up raising a son who grows up to resent women, including you.

You should factor in that maybe the Mother herself “Hates Women”, and that rubbed off on the kid who went through his first failed relationship.

The battle of the sexes has turned into the gender wars where men hate women and women hate men. It's annoying and infuriating to witness and am glad I'm old enough not to have to deal with it directly

Willingly bringing a kid into an unstable life isn't selfless; especially when there a more than a few women who have children in an attempt to keep their man from leaving, to experience motherhood, or even accidentally. Those children grow-up differently just knowing how bad their life is due to their parents fucking around irresponsibly and that the child isn't a priority in whatever love drama their parents have going on. Narcissist parents are also a real thing.

So I'd say the same conditions that create single mothers, poor planning and lack of emotional maturity or relationship management, is what causes many of these men to become bitter. It's just bad choices from the parents all around that are taught to the kids. Also not discounting some of these mothers are just outright abusive or sexist themselves against men/women.

Yeah I noticed that too with the black community as well. Some of the most hood YN come from single mother homes and the way they treat women is heartbreaking 🤦🏾‍♂️

A guy I knew that was sexist grew up with a toxic mother who had him at 15 and chose boyfriends over him. Father wasn’t involved in his life even though he lived nearby apparently. He always talked about being the “man of the household” even though he had many aunts growing up too. He simultaneously liked the color pink and listened to some girl music while behaving and saying sexist things, including “that’s not ladylike” to girls.

I think that thing about doting mothers creating “man children” is probably fair. My mother was kind of like that and here I am, 23, and do NOT feel like I’m mature enough for adult romantic relationships, nor do I feel like I have the discipline to commit to adult duties. I’m trying my best, I live alone, I work, but man it’s rough sometimes.
