Farquaad hates fairy tales because he's based on Michael Eisner, the man responsible for erasing Disney's artistic integrity in favor of solely pleasing the stockholders.

PLEASE watch the second one. It's probably one of the best sequels ever made.

Shrek is just 90+ minutes of a GIANT middle finger to Disney. It’s practically the “anti-Disney” movie. LMAO 😂

He sings, he dances, he tells jokes, he also seduces dragons. Donkey is a bard through and through.

Eddie Murphy actually got a Best Supporting Actor nomination at the BAFTA awards for this. It remains the only time ever that a voiceover performance received an acting nomination from any of the 3 major awards bodies (Golden Globes, BAFTAs, and Oscars).

"I'm a Believer" at the end was Smashmouth but it was a cover of the original The Monkees song.

"Shrek was just perfect from start to finish."

Wait until you see the second one, which is even better.

Definetley watch shrek 2. It is such an iconic movie and prime example on how to do a good sequel

9:51 "I told you to SLAY the dragon, NOT LAY the dragon!"

Shrek isn’t just a cartoon — it’s a cultural phenomenon. This film proved that animation can be funny, smart, and full of emotion all at once. Thanks for this reaction, it felt like I was going back to my childhood again.”

Fun fact: Animators at Dreamworks were forced to work on Shrek as PUNISHMENT, while all the "good" animators were working on The Prince of Egypt.

Shrek is a "family" film. It's not specifically aimed at children. It's designed so children AND adults can enjoy it. Remember that just because something is animated does not mean it's only for kids.

1:14 that one needle drop defined the millennial generation lol

Shrek will forever be my favorite fantasy-based movie for all ages, especially the characters from Fairy Tale Stories

what makes the movie even funnier is knowing that farquad is based on the creators old boss from disney

if she liked this one she'll definitely fall in love with the sequel.

Jeffery Katzenberg used to work for Disney. He was actually up for the top job as CEO but instead they gave it to Michael Eisner. He was so mad that he quit, started a new animation studio and dedicated their first project to mocking everything Disney was famous for.

This movie, this entire franchise and the studio that made it only exist because one dude got turned down for a job.

13:43 Farquaad Killed the mama bear and turned her into a bear rug

if you like lord Farquaad's haircut you can also see it in the new snow white movie

If one thinks about it, "Shrek" viewed backwards is the story of an ogre who divorces his ogre wife on good terms, then marries her off to a short man that a dragon had just spat out, and the rising sun causes her to become a human princess, after which the ogre runs off to his swamp, splitting up from his trusted donkey, tears down the barriers he had built thereon; meanwhile, the princess divorces the short man too and falls into depression, so the short man carries here away onto a hill, where the ogre conveniently ventured out, after which the princess hides in a cave throughout the night, before exiting and having a good time with the ogre, while the donkey leads them all towards a menacing tower, and during the voyage, everyone moonwalks, the princess heals some bandits by kicking and slapping them, and the ogre acquires a metal knight-like helmet. Once at the base of the bridge leading to the tower, the fire-absorbent dragon from before breathes in the fire around, restoring the bridge and allowing the ogre to carry the princess into the tower, while the donkey rejects the dragon's advances. The ogre puts the princess to sleep and leaves her alone, running off to grab his donkey and leaving the castle, calming the dragon in the process. Progressively annoyed by the donkey's moonwalking, the ogre arrives to the dominion of that short man from before, and commits the miracle of healing several knights by fighting them in a ring. The short man promises that he would rid the ogre's swamp from fairy tale creatures, and the ogre and the donkey leave the scene, growing apart emotionally and agreeing to pretend not to know each other. The donkey is led into the custody of an old woman by the short lord's helpful knights, while the ogre happily returns to his swamp, dirties himself and locks himself in a toilet.
