So diesel prices just aren't in the defence budget anymore huh?

Modern Cavalry before Gta6

And pigeons instead of emails

"Platform agnostic". A new height of management doublespeak.

Technically they'd be dragoons rather than cavalry.

Mules are still good for transporting equipment in mountains/jungles.

The biggest issue is breeding and training replacements. Horses (and mules and other pack animals) experience huge attrition in wartime, and take considerable time and resources (including simply large areas of land) to breed and train. It's one thing to train a few literal show ponies for parades and tourist selfies at Buckingham palace, it's another to operate them in a military context longer than a few weeks.

I had to check this wasn't posted on 1st April

Well, considering the Army has a lot more horse than tanks lets hope so.

Could be handy we have more horses than tanks

I imagine smaller, hardier horses will  serve better than these beautiful chargers.

Finally,  an analogue wolf replacement instead of the ecu laden options on offer.

1. Unless they're going to be fighting from the horses, this is mounted infantry, not cavalry.

2. A lot of militaries have kept this capability, events if only in specialised units. Surprised that the UK is only rediscovering this concept now.

what a horse will eat and drink will offset any advantage they bring to the field. they do represent a portable sorce of food.
those "horses" used in the mountains were actually mules.

Great have to keep options open if your vehicle breaks down!!🇬🇧

The Portuguese used cavalry, or mounted infantry, for patrolling during the war in Angola in the 1970s.  It was thought that horses allowed the soldiers to get closer to the civilian population than they would in vehicles, but also gave them some of the mobility that comes from vehicles.

Idk, Horse Force could be a TV hit!🙂

Next, They will be fitted with lasers.

Trench warfare, artillery duels and war horses ww1 all over again

And you can't eat an armoured vehicle if breaks down.
