The junk food you can order in the hospital is shocking!

The Government buying excess piglets, slaughtering them, and then just dumping the carcasses IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GREAT DEPRESSION is such an American response to a situation like that. Here in New Zealand, at around the same time, our Centre-Left Government of the time decided that as our Dairy farmers had a milk surplus on their hands and children were suffering because of the Depression, the Government would buy the excess, and it was then given out on a daily basis to every single school child, for free. It was called the School Milk Programme, and from about the mid/late 1930s, until the programme was stopped by a Centre-right Government in the mid/late 1960s, and was a huge success. 🤷‍

I was in public school from 2005-2017. Thinking back, we were only given milk as options to drink. Not even water…. We had to use a water fountain in the hall if we just wanted water. I think that’s crazy.

There's been a lot of pushback about school lunches in recent years but I wish some of that would extend to nursing home residents who are at the mercy of institutional food morning , noon and night . I know kids are the future and cuter but we still deserve to live the best quality of life that we can in our final days.

The cafeterias are full of vending machines now, in some places.

France provides lunches in public schools and although the palatability is variable, it's healthy most of the time. (Fruits, veggies, lightly processed meat or fish, yoghourt, and water) Afternoon snacks are packed by parents and breakfast is taken at home. Prices of schools lunches vary and dépend on your annual income as a family, if you're too poor it's government funded....

I'm from south america and I went to school from 2006 to 2016 and every school in my state had a nutritionist provided by the state government to make the school's menu.
It wasnt always great, but I always had meat, real meat, and vegetables. Sometimes we had yoghurt as a dessert. And that was it. Idk if schools are still like this, but it was great during my years there.

And parents wonder why there kids don't like certain foods or won't eat certain foods because school foods are not that good

Part of education should be teaching the kids to grow food.

I wish youtube channels would put the date on videos. This is several years old based on how young the speakers are.

The moderately high prevalence of lactose intolerance, especially among minorities, makes the prevalence of cow lactation and the lack of plant-based milk options - yet another unreasonable position.

We had water fountains. If you didn't drink milk, you got a dixie cup and were told to get water.

I was in public school in the 90s and early 2000s. I remember if your parents didn't meet the income threshold or made too much money (even just a little bit), then they would charge the student for lunch. I went many days without eating breakfast or lunch at school. I remember it being so embarrassing at the end of the day when I would be hungry and my stomach would growl and I hoped nobody would hear. But on the flip side, I saw what they served to students, and the food always seemed so processed and not very nutritious. I actually think I may have dodged a bullet. 😝

Send your kids with food, ask cps to help if you can't properly feed your kids

They eat off plastic trays? No way! Oh well. I eat more calories these days, but I'm strictly keto so it doesn't matter (within reason!) I stick to red meat from cows in the local field, and butter, cheese. eggs and bacon of course. Keeps the weight off nicely. Used to eat fruit, grains, starchy veg and beans= obesity prediabetes arthritis. Luckily no fast food outlets where I lived or it would've been much worse. I was 69 before I saw the light, gave up plant food mostly, lost 35kg and regained my health. My 70s are SO good! I feel so sorry for the children I see today. All soft flab, no muscle, double chins. What will their health be if they make it to my age?

I lived in a South American country. When I was little, until high school, we would only be given some money for snacks, or even have our snacks packed for us until we were in middle school. And then you had lunch when you got home. That was great! Nice home cooked food every day. When I came to the US, I didn’t eat anything, except for chocolate milk, which I didn’t want anyway. But there was nothing else for me to eat, because I did not like the food. Don’t get me started on school breakfasts! One time we got served a chicken patty, and two bread slices. I suppose we were supposed to make a sandwich out of that in the morning, and to top it all off, accompany that chicken sandwich with regular or chocolate milk, and any sugary cereal you can think of. Where I come from, you have a nice breakfast with eggs and everything, and then you go to school.
