As an over 30 year old "boomer" who played Doom as a kid when it was shareware in 94, it's pretty cool to see newer generations delve into the game and based on the comments, mod it too.

The BFG 3000? They sure went through a lot of prototypes before they got to 9000.

Out of all the “Lion Sleeps Tonight memes” I’ve seen, this was easily the funniest.

12:42 I love the detail of the ammo count actually decreasing when Dwight shoots the dart. You didn't have to do that, but you did and I love you for it.

17:57 That is not an actual quote from a real strategy guide. That is a ZDoom screenshot, tilted, given a background and a grainy filter to make it look scanned, but it's actually just a meme. The decals on the wall behind the cyberdemon prove that this is is a ZDoom screenshot, and ZDoom was not created until long after the rise of the internet made strategy guides obsolete.

Finally, someone that realizes that hitscanners belong!
They pepper you with weak undodgeaple shots, but are weak, and should be taken out first. They apply pressure. They're not the problem. Its the people who put 7  chaingunners or archviles in the same room.

I also thought that you couldn’t change between the chainsaw and fist, but you can by switching to your chainsaw then press 1, it does what happens in doom 2 with the super shotgun and shotgun which you can also switch between - you can also 1 shot the spider mastermind with the BFG with how the cone of fire works, basically fire and hug it and you might one shot it. Great video

"Mr Doom Guy discards all of his weapon and it makes each episode feel a bit fresh"
Heard about pistol start? Each level is planned in a way so that it could be completed with only resources provided, and it's much more fun that way in my opinion

One of the things I learned about the Chaingun that makes it even better is that the first two shots are perfectly accurate. That means it is somehow both the game's machine gun and sniper rifle.

3 year late GZDoom fella here,
GZDoom is a hugely enhanced port of Doom that not only allows modern stuff like higher resolutions and mouselook + vertical aiming, but can also play other games based off the Doom engine such as Heretic, Hexen, and Strife. It also adds a metric ton of modding features, such as a new coding system called Zscript, allowing for easy enemy and weapon creation without having to rely on very pre-defined code from a 1993 game, and there's also an entirely new format for levels, allowing full scripting, transparent surfaces, floors above floors, colored lighting, slopes, and a TON more.
Pretty much it takes Doom's engine and makes it into a suped up build engine

I agree, Doom is the most important fps of all time. Hell, what game do you know that spawned two waves of clones?

I got into Doom like you, when they announced Eternal I bought 2016, and after that played every single main entry. I've just been postponing Doom 3 tho, don't think I'll ever get into that.

Who would win?
A bunch of demons from Hell, who breath torment, torture, and death? Or a very angry guy?

Levels were designed for Ultra Violence enemy and item placement and made easier from there. Nightmare is a joke difficulty that was made because people complained UV was too easy.

19:26 had me dead this part

19:33
"OH IT'S GONNA BE LIKE THAT , IS IT ? WELL WHY DON'T YOU TASTE MY BBBBBBBBBBBBBBBBB"

I've only ever played the GBA version of DooM, so seeing PC footage and hearing the PC music was so cool!

My mom and dad were also very religious and we are Hindus, but they were on board with me ripping and tearing digital demons. They even gave it a shot too, but they just stopped playing soon

3:06 that's a very Vargskelethor question

If we’re going off of actual names, bfg stands for “big fucking gun” epic

"There's that realy rewarding feeling as soon as you one of them down." *Doom eternal ad *
