Captain Shreyas Iyer has just unleashed an absolute masterclass in Lucknow! Team India made a massive statement in the series opener, chasing down 172 with 32 balls to spare to completely crush the West Indies by 8 wickets at the Ekana Cricket Stadium and take a 1-0 series lead!
In this video, Pdogg and Vignesh break down all the high-octane action. We start with the West Indies' first innings, where they were bowled out for 171 in 19.1 overs after Shreyas Iyer won the toss and opted to bowl. Despite a dangerous 52 off 37 from opener Shai Hope and a powerful 56 off 34 balls from Sherfane Rutherford, the Indian bowling unit struck back ruthlessly. We dive into the spectacular debut of Naman Dhir, who announced his arrival on the international stage with brilliant figures of 3/31! The spin twins Kuldeep Yadav (2/33) and Axar Patel (2/26) triggered a massive late collapse, as the Windies lost their last five wickets for just 28 runs, backed up by pace strikes from Arshdeep Singh and Mayank Yadav.
Then, we shift focus to India's absolute box-office run chase! The hosts lost Abhishek Sharma (21 off 10) and Sanju Samson (11) early in the powerplay to Akeal Hosein. However, from 35/2, Shreyas Iyer took complete control and tore the Caribbean bowling attack to shreds. Playing with pure freedom, Iyer bludgeoned his way to a sensational maiden T20I century, finishing unbeaten on a jaw-dropping 102* off just 43 deliveries (10 fours, 6 sixes)! He was perfectly anchored by Ishan Kishan, who scored a composed 37* off 27 balls. The duo stitched together an unbeaten 137-run stand to make a total mockery of the target, crossing the finish line in a mere 14.4 overs.
Let us know in the comments: Is Shreyas Iyer's 102* one of the greatest captain's knocks in Indian T20I history? And how impressed were you with Naman Dhir taking 3 wickets on debut?
