Never apologise for fact checking.
Curiosity is the beginning of knowledge.

Fact checking is something only smart people do, so no need to feel stupid about that

"Die Anstalt" is one of the greatest german satire shows. So good that sometimes it feels more Like a school lesson tbh xD

Currently, we're threatening Venezuela, trying to destabilize the country, and create a rebellion that topples Maduro.  This is the 5th US attempt to overthrow their government in the past 25 years.

Did I mention that Venezuela sits on the largest oil reserves in the world?

Anstalt is a very general term for institution but in the way it is used here it meant mental hospital.
On the other hand the TV-Network "ZDF" where this is shown is a "Fernseh-Anstalt" (TV-Institution) so internally the people working there are revering to it as "Die Anstalt" and sometimes use this in a way that it appears to be also kind of a mental-hospital.

The incubators were a real story. The Us used that to justify their actions. It only turned out in the aftermath that it was a lie to justify their actions.

As I said in another response: You are NOT stupid. And teaching yourself things, whether through videos, books, or conversations... That makes you a smart person. Seeking knowledge, questioning information, and forming your own opinions. I think that's simply fantastic. Every journey begins with the first step. And we're here to support you. Keep going! All the best!

12:07 Die Anstalt (in that case) means The Asylum as in insane asylum 'cause that's what the world we're living in feels like...

Dear Heidi, you DO have shows like this in the US, but they are being canceled one at a time....

And, jeez, kudos to you for being interested in this stuff!

There's a subtle meta joke at the beginning. Uthoff (the one with the hat) wondering why a lawyer should be something bad. Uthoff himself is a lawyer.

Without going into specific cases, most rich countries spend billions in foreign aid, partly because people really want to help but also to accumulate soft power. Think e.g. of developing nations in Africa. It has a real impact if medical or food programs there are mostly financed by the US or China (to pick very opposite players). There doesn’t have to be an immediate quid pro quo but it can influence a lot of political decisions from mining contracts to UN votes. Foreign aid can also help stabilize a country, which might be beneficial for donor countries that have interests in the region, and curb refugee migration.

I'm German. This was one of the best political comedian TV show. But that's now at least 10 years old.

The babies in incubators is true in the sense it was used to further justify intervention. You can actually videos of both the supposed midwife and president HW Bush and other American political leaders at the time repeat the lie.

congratulations my lady, i wish all americans  had empathy as you

The US doesn't just have debts, it has more than enough money... but most of it is held by very, very few people...

remember volker pispers:)

"Die Anstalt" is short for "Die Irrenanstalt" in this case - a slang term for an insane asylum. The show was themed (loosely kinda sorta) after a mental hospital setting. Some people were inmates, some doctors, some visitors.

Heidi, you're doing just fine. NO ONE knows everything and curiosity is my personal favorite. o7

USAID, contrary to how it's often pronounced, is USA-ID; USA International Development. You're right, it's not just out of kindness. Although it certainly does a lot of good, it is intended as an instrument of soft power; to protect American economic and strategic interests without the use of force. It creates goodwill among other peoples, fosters relations with local governments, and it also simply brings in business. A hospital needs to be constructed, which in such cases is often done by American companies. Most wealthy countries do such things.

Fact check is a good thing, Heidi!
