MATCHBOX Restoration No.25d Ford Cortina 1968

Marty's Matchbox Makeovers

What a boring car! - Boring in real life and boring as a toy. It doesn't matter though, 'cos I don't have one in my collection of restored 1/75 series Matchbox cars. My goal is to have one of each of them but I may have bitten off more than I can chew with my ambitious challenge.

Boring it may be but nonetheless it turned out not too bad considering what it looked like when I dug it out of my box of 'to do' cars.

Does anyone know Tony Sirrett? - It had his name in it and I can't find out how I ended up with it! - Let me know.

When I see that you’ve posted a new video I grab a coffee and prepare for 30minutes of relaxation

Boring car? Nope. I still have my Matchbox one, although the bronze paint went when I played with on the beach at Saundersfoot when I was young. My Dad had a real one in which he let me drive on a deserted beach when I was 12. I also owned one and loved that car and he taught me how to work on it.

RE: Roof rack with wheels and spades - maybe a Cortina (or two) took part in the Dakar Rally at some point in time ;-)

I would say, the craftsmanship is what makes your cars more special. Whether it seems like a boring model or not, it still gets the Marty treatment. =)

Although I haven't collected Matchbox in over 50 years, it's so fun to motor down memory lane with you, Marty. In later years I worked at a machine shop and can relate with a lot of your hobby skills--well done! I envy your 21st century shortcuts like ultra-sonic cleaners and 3-D printing. Using a 3-D printer to make a wooden Lesney replica was genius. I noticed my tendency to buy used REAL cars based on my familiarity with their Matchbox counterparts, so you could say I collected their full-sized models at times. Trucks, cars, motorcycles. I had the 1-75 pre-1970 line so memorized that even today I can tell that a Daimler Ambulance (14) would become an Iso Grifo and the number just hovers around each model. Drove the hobby store owner nuts--he would drill me: "What's number 53?" Fun times. I regret selling my collection in 1989 for a tidy profit--it would be worth so much more now. Of course, I collected while they were still mostly pristine on the store shelves and few needed remakes. My collection nowadays is the picture books of early Lesney. Thank you for maintaining my childhood! I do hope you acquire a large Coronation Coach for both our sakes! The one model I always wanted but never found. Happy 2026! Cheers to all! Rochester MN USA.

The great thing about these restorations is the products that you let everyone know will work which can be a problem if your not used to doing this kind of work , many thanks , regards from the UK

Came out great and love the colour! It might be a 'boring' model but for many of us it's a reminder of our younger days. As always, overcoming unexpected snags is part of the fascination of your videos! Keep up the good work! (41degs? Here it's -2 and falling! Brrrrr)
