Fear-mongering about AI is everywhere. But are we confusing protecting creativity with protecting the old ways of creating?

In this video, I take a step back from the AI vs. human debate and look at the history of creative technology — from photography and recorded music to synthesizers, drum machines, Auto-Tune, Pro Tools, sampling, and now artificial intelligence.
Yes, there are legitimate concerns. Copyright matters. Consent matters. Compensation matters. Training data matters. Market saturation is real, and some creative jobs will change or disappear.

But that's different from declaring that creativity itself is finished.
AI doesn't eliminate the human equation. Taste, judgment, emotion, experience, intention, culture, storytelling and choice still matter.
I'm a hybrid creator. Sometimes I play the instruments myself. Sometimes I use AI. Sometimes I combine both. And I believe the future isn't HUMAN vs. MACHINE.
It's HUMAN + MACHINE.

You don't have to use AI. But you also shouldn't assume your creative path is the only legitimate one.
The real question isn't "Will AI destroy creativity?"
The real question is:
"What will YOU do with it?"

Keep the human in the loop. Keep learning. Keep creating. And most importantly — keep your imagination. 🎹🎸🤖🔥

Well done commentary. As a lifelong musician who began with magnetic tape and edited with razor blades, I've discovered that my playing has improved, my editing and production are better, my creativity now surprises me regularly, my music theory skills have taken on more depth, and I've learned a thing or two about mastering finished projects even better than all the professional audio pieces I created for clients the years. I was skilled before, but using AI in a complementary fashion has clearly improved my human element. A well-done song is a still a well-done song.

I just watched a video criticizing Suno and AI in general, and what amused me most was that the video itself was created using AI—specifically employing "fast-paced" editing and the "rule of three."

Great words my friend… the fixed mindset is in fact very real when “fair compensation” is at the heart of FEAR, but as you say we will and in fact have adapted to all new technologies and techniques, but we have always controlled them. A.I is a bit more than simply control and some will and are impacted by it. “Fortune fears the brave, and crushes the cowardly”

Here is a simple example/experiment the outcome of which I know for a fact. A person who has studied music theory knows how to instruct an AI which is SUNO in order to generate an unique output providing the result desired by that person. On the flip side a person who knows only how to press the "Generate" button, will in 99% of the attempts produce the standard boring chord progressions which SUNO relies on. Take a listen to what gets published on YouTube and alike - most of them sound equally boring, in the same key, with slightly different tempo and different modulation. So yes - the human factor is and will decide the final outcome. In fact the more advanced the AI systems get, the more control possibilities they will present to the humans.

This is comfortably the most eloquent defence of using AI tools like Suno that I have ever heard.

I have used Suno for over two years now. For the first day or two, I only thought it was capable of generating songs entirely from prompts.

Then I found out it could put arrangements and melodies to my lyrics. So I used it for that.

Then, about a year ago, I found out you could use your own melodies too, so I started combining my own sung melodies - a skill I never previously realised I had - with my lyrics.

Recently, I've had the urge to learn instruments like piano and guitar. So I've tentatively begun exploring those - not easy with a family and a job to hold down, but I'm giving it a go.

Funny how, for me, Suno has unleashed skills and curiosity, rather than diminish them.

It's not the end of music and creativity as we know it. Far from it. If used with intent and curiosity, the opposite is true.

It's going to build artists too. You're taking people who can't possibly make it in music, giving them the ability to rap, sing, and use their own voice. That's almost like giving them the talent for real. The pen is there to do as it pleases. With only a bit of nuance, I would feel capable. Shoot music videos, have a good time with that new found creative freedom. At least it's rapped where you want it rapped, and sung where you want it sung. Dabble in your two favorite genres. For now I like the idea of it.

I like to play pop punk, and I play bass. Where I live i cannot find other people who play instruments. So, I use suno. I record bass lines and vocals and run them through suno create songs.

Preach, brother! You hit the nail on the head. Fearmongering sells. It manipulates the very people it purports to care about. The Beatos and the "Top Music Attorneys" of the world profit from the fears of those afraid of losing (perceived) influence or their identity as musicians - those who feel that their decades of "pain" have been in vain and rendered irrelevant. There are legitimate issues, of course, but none of the manipulators actually care.

It's performative on the parts of the record labels and the AI companies, who are battling for the sake of their own riches. We all know that. But the same is true of the YouTube fearmongers.
