An alleged armed clash on the border between Venezuela and Colombia reportedly occurred between ELN guerrillas and the Bolivarian National Guard, which serves the Venezuelan regime.
According to the NGO Fundaredes, the confrontation left one dead and five wounded in a rural area of Junín, Táchira state.
The incident occurred when two Venezuelan police officers ordered a convoy of at least three high-end SUVs without license plates to stop. A man got out of one of the vehicles and identified himself as a member of the ELN, carrying a grenade and a pistol.
According to reports, the police officers responded with gunfire, fatally wounding the individual, who was later taken to a medical center in Rubio, where he died.
According to witnesses, the wounded guerrilla was taken to a private clinic in Rubio, where the area was cordoned off by the ELN.
An ambulance was dispatched from San Cristóbal, and power was restored specifically to the clinic, at a time when the rest of the population was experiencing blackouts.
