THEY WERE 6 AND THEY NEGOTIATED LIKE 600! | Analysis of DS9’s The Magnificent Ferengi | Treknalysis

Does this episode really need an introduction? It's an action, it's a comedy, it has slapstick, and it even has Iggy Pop. It's Quark and his ragtag team of Ferengi rescuing his Moogie from the Dominion. It's the DS9 Season 6 episode The Magnificent Ferengi, one of the show's greatest episodes, and it does what TNG failed to do with the Ferengi.

This is one of those "Never Skip" episodes for sure. 🖖

Fun episodes like this were a great antidote to the war episodes. The physical comedy was great and it can't have been easy doing it and protecting the makeup. It must feel like a reward to the actors to be brought together and trusted to hold and episode.

Keevan being re-animated is also a call-back to TOS episode “Spock’s Brain”

Moogie was the 7th Ferengi.

I just love that Keevan got everything he deserved. To this day his decomposing corpse is walking into that bulkhead.

This is one of my favorite episodes. I especially like when the Vorta starts walking and Iggy Pop is sure they must have tortured him, haha.

The counting by fingers as they grow the team is specifically what Yul Brenner and Steve McQueen do as they pick up more members.

Magnificent Ferengi is seriously THE template for Lower Decks

A really great episode that is placed well during the Dominion War arc and everyone essentially gets to shine.

Keevan was set up to be so hated in his first appearance. It's satisfying to see how miserable he is throughout this episode because he knows the Dominion is going to punish him horribly for surrendering to the Federation.

One thing about the episode is you got the combination of different type of ferengi. You got the dealer. you got the killer. You got the fool. You got the planner. You nearly have nearly all facet of what make a ferengi a ferengi. they are not all the same type of character like say the vulcan that are all logical or the klingon that all fighters and warriors.

4:53 pretty sure Quark serves all Starfleet members for free in exchange for not having to pay rent or maintenance costs

1:51 The Magnificent Seven was an adaptation of Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, which was also adapted into A Bug's Life 🐛🪲🐞🦋🐜😄

My only complaint about this episode is that it is so good it completely overshadows my second favorite Ferengi episode of the franchise "The House of Quark", where Quark is forced to marry that Klingon woman. Underrated episode.
