Donate them to a school! I gave my X-T2 to the local community college. The photography teacher keeps a handful of loaners because a lot of low income folks drop the class on the first day when they find out that they actually need to have a camera of their own to complete the assignments. The loaners keep them enrolled, which leads to more people getting to experience the joy of photography.

Pov u r a teenager who loves photography but cant even afford a newer camera so ur forced to work with tht 1 older one u have, which kinda limits u here nd there...😭 nd there's people having cameras just sitting on the shelf😭😅

We all struggle with the same questions.  Not a professional, I decided to stay with the Fuji X-T1.  It is all about the sensor for me.

As you and others have said it depends on what your photography needs or goals are. As a hobbyist who just likes to take a walk with one camera and a small lens my Fuji XT5 and the 27mm 2.8 or 35mm 1.4 are all I need. I have a number of small Fuji lenses and most of them sit on a shelf most of the time and nostalgia keeps them there for me to dust (or not) now and then. Can't remember what the point of my comment was now but thanks for the walkabout Omar🤦‍♂️

I use older cameras that they use an analog sensor…..um I mean film. Haha I enjoy my dslr and mirrorless as well. I enjoy going out and having fun with whatever camera I decide to use that day. I will say that I get more compliments when I use my older cameras than my new ones. I also photograph different subjects with the older cameras than the newer ones. I just enjoy being out no matter with what camera. Nice to see you at the marshlands! I will be there tomorrow for a birding festival! I will have newer and older cameras with me tomorrow…..maybe… maybe just the newer ones. Make my life easier haha

I shoot a lot landscape on my Nikon D3 with 24-120 F4 N series lens, low ISO's, f8 to f11, AE bracketing 5+ frames and post process merge, effectively boosting and besting dynamic range to modern gear. Having said this, I recently invested in a Panasonic S1R and must confess to enjoying IBIS and the extra megapixels. I'd love a Nikon Z8 but the bank-budget won't stretch. Some times I blow the dust off my old Nikon D200 and get some fab results. It's a golden age for still photography, so much gear choice out there, something to suit everyone.

In this mirrorless age I'm still holding onto my D850. The D850 used to be my main landscape camera until I bought a Z6II many moons ago. On a recent shoot I decided to bring my D850 and I enjoyed it very much. It is quite a bit heavier and bulkier than my Z6II gear but it is still a very capable camera. So it is no going anywhere. I guess we all get overloaded by messages of the new gear and we mostly fall for it. Yet there is often no reason for it.

The thing with photography is that when you get a good shot and it took a good amount of effort.... it means more to you.  Slowing down also helps you compose better... so maybe those older cameras can be an advantage.    My advice is to narrow it down to a couple of cameras that you love.  I have a favorite camera... it has enough technology that it gets out my way, but not so much that it removes me from the process - it has enough quality that I am happy shooting this for most things the rest of my life. I also have a film camera from 1983 that takes me way back to basics... not to the point where you need external light meter, but manual focus and cranking that shutter - I don't use it often, but it's always special. I have better cameras - but I only use them for wildlife/action... but even then... I can't get on board with pre-capture... doesn't feel right...

I have used many cameras over the years, from film back in the 80s, through the early digital cameras with only 2MP, right up to full-frame and medium format digital. Passing through DSLR and mirrorless along the way! But you know what, the camera I still love to use the most is my trusty old Fuji X-E1. That 1st gen X-Trans sensor gives the best colour and 16MP is plenty. I don't shoot sports anymore, so I don't need the fast AF. Just stick a lens on the X-E1 (Yes, my every day lens is still the Fuji 18-55mm f2.8-4... It's a terrific lens!) and off I go. I have invested in things like a DJI Osmo Pocket 4 and a very good smartphone camera, but the X-E1 is the favourite for photography.

Superfluous things are bad. Money is good.  By selling you can exchange one for the other. So what is the questions here? Entertaining video as always.

Interesting idea. I think it really depends on your subject matter and photography style. Sports and birds yeah thats going to be more challenging to do, but most other types of photography I think I'd feel the opposite.

Downsizing from gear you don't really use though I 100% agree with.

I did the opposite. Sold my new expensive stuff and got an old dslr. I want to do more slow photography from now on. On a tripod like an old man.

I miss my X-H1. I wish I never sold it. I would re buy it for sure.

Omar it’s like you’re reading my mind again, knowing I’ve been lusting after a Z8 even more lately because I am a newly minted HS marching band parent with photo skillz. Even though my Nikon D500 is great I’m shooting performances of all these kids and throwing away most shots because it isn’t grabbing eye focus reliably. And I have to do a lot of editing and cropping to turn meh shots into bangers (and taking your advice on removing “dupes” through brutal selection). I’m probably just rusty and could adjust settings for better results, but it’s hard to put in the effort knowing that better tools exist. All I need to do is clear a couple shelves worth of legacy gear (and maybe sell a kidney) to raise the cash. So tempting! 😂
