The combat in RE4R is peak

I doubt I'll ever stop playing OG but I really do appreciate the remake too.

REALLY  cool video. I beat RE4R like 20 times already too xD Indeed the gameplay is just IMMACULATE.  It's the coolest thing this remake brought to the table.

the remake is awesome, but nothing beats the OGs replayability , its superb and so much fun even after all those years.

This video is making my hands itch to play the game for the 100th time... This game in vr is by far my favorite game ever made.

Try it on PSVR2 and it comes ALIVE. Literally.

I love both version's the PS2 was more tense as you can only shoot standing still, i hate flying enemy's in any game i waste ammo 😂

Awesome vid! I 100% agree, the fact that they didn't just do an almost shot to shot remake is great, especially with all the little and big changes they added. I wish I liked the game as much as you, but to me, it was probably lower on my list of RE games (which isn't saying much, since all of them, minus RE8 and RE6, are some of the highest quality and best games I've ever played.) The original to me still feels so much better, but I can see why someone would love them equally.

idk what they fed leon in RE4 OG. He was able to shoot a sniper rifle with no recoil bruh. Must be on steroids.

One minor critique I had of the original was the fact that it never tried to mix and match enemy types - if you're fighting ganados, it's only ganados. If it's Novistadors, then it's a Novistador section - same for regenerators and colmillos. The remake doesn't mix and match enemy types often but it does do it, throwing in Novistadors alongside ganados in one section, and throwing in colmillos a few times and there is one section you can face regenerators and ganados at the same time if you really screw up. I think the Remake had room to do this more, but it did improve on this lacking element slightly. I greatly prefer how the Novistadors are used in the remake in particular.

The remake is amazing. It equals the original. Just.
The original has its own quirkiness to it though. Just something about it. Played it so many times.

I can’t get back in the og, I grew out of it. Sitting still to shoot is so weird now.. I don’t mind it in the og trilogy but 4 needed updated modern combat system, it just works so fkn good 🔥🔥
Plus the gore when shooting the ganados is outstanding 😎😎

I really don't buy this "the game was built around limitations" argument, because yeah, it's true when it comes to technology, but when it comes to gameplay design choices, there is no way they couldn't have figured out a smoother gameplay in 2005, the year which we already had many smoother games with snappy controls and free camera. RE4 mechanics was intentionally built like that, it's by design. It has that fresh Arcade DNA to it, which not only CAPCOM was famous for by the time, but Shinji Mikami especially. It's so silly to think in 2005 they couldn't figure out there was a second analog near the first when it was already a staple by then just as much as snappy controls and combat mechanics like the old beat'em ups. It's so true that the first instance of this game was basically devil may cry, it was too action heavy (i'm talking about the version before that horror-style demo we all know about). The exact movement and combat they implemented to be RE4 became Devil May Cry and it was years prior to the definitive build of RE4 even started being developed. So, yeah... it wasn't "limitations", it was a design choice. They weren't that dumb in 2005, same year we already had games with absurd animations and physics.

Okay so the thing is you can enjoy both but RE4R plays more of an action game than the original , the one that took things "off the rails" . When I saw Leon parrying a chainsaw for the first time I was like "why ?" . I expected to see dr. Salvador cut Leons head off wirth his hellish scream in 4K , yet we got something that belongs to RE6 . Couldn't they keep it for RE9 ? Also I miss the incendiary grenades . Speaking of risks and reward , at the minecart section from the remake you don't gain or lose anything , in the original however you can decide if you want the Ganados to jump into the cart so that you can loot them , or shoot them before they jump in .

And yet, even for a specific scenario in the remake, in which all Capcom did was make you enter a familiar room from the right instead of the left, someone somewhere is complaining that this was the worst possible change in the world and the game has no “soul” because of it

One of my least favorite things is how fans who prefer the original will construct the most convoluted nonsensical arguments as to why the remake is inferior, in an attempt to justify the fact that they simply prefer the original for more nebulous, subjective, or nostalgic reasons.
