In case you haven't seen my latest community post, I'm currently working on the Batman Arkham Knight video. That's why it's been so long since Valhalla. I'll be playing Assassin's Creed Shadows soon, video will depend on how easily the script comes to me. And of course, Death Stranding 2: On the Princess Beach the moment it drops.

“I like Destiny, and I used to love it.”
Damn, that hits close to home.

"I dont hate this game, I just hate how I dont love it"

That really is the defining line of everything...

Your point at the end really resonated with me. So much of Destiny is literally gone, deleted from the game, and can never be experienced again. It exists only as a memory and it's unique and sad.

The period of time between the Destiny 1 Beta and The Taken King release was some of the best gameplay I’ve ever experienced

This video has an entire new meaning now.  7:11 onwards hits hard

It took me 16 minuets to realize Destiny is 10 years old. I heard "10 year plan" and I thought "yeah shame that never happened." It did happen. I simply checked out 8 years ago. Time flies.

I won't miss logging in just to look at my ship, see the disjointed Director, then close the game. This felt like a drug addiction I have overcome

Fellow guardians, we have gathered here today...

Been clean off of D2 for over a year now. Gaming has been fun again and i don't feel dragged down by one single game anymore.

I dont think I miss Destiny anymore... What I miss, is the boy who put that disc into his xbox 360, storming through the story, going downstairs and begging mum to buy him the Taken King, then playing through all that too. I miss the mystery and excitement I had going around the dreaming city and finding all the secrets, the friends I no longer speak to. This game gave me so much. Letting it go feels like letting go of a family member, icl. I know that sounds dumb considering it's a videogame. But I've never felt more at home than in the world of Destiny. And part of the reason why I dont want to let it go, is that I fear I never will feel like that again...

"Yeah but I'm a warlock" too fkn real😂😂

I feel like Destiny has run it's coarse for a lot of us long time players. Personally Final shape had the "Avengers Endgame" effect on me where I felt it concluded and didn't need to continue which ofc would be a problem for a live service game but for me when I can say "Yep I had a blast even with the crappy parts but this was enough for me to hang up my Hawkmoon.". After nearly 10 long years of this franchise I can safely say that I had fun but this is where my stop is.

As someone who played the game from the D1 beta... Sticking with it through thick and thin. The lost potential of this game hurts! They had lightning in a bottle!

Destiny was the end of an era in my life. An era when I had friends. An era when I had time. It was the last game that made me feel connected and available.

As my raid buddies and I entered our 30s, we dropped the game one by one. We found spouses, we bought houses, we had children.

I hope there comes a time in my life where I can again experience what Destiny provided. The coming together of 6 friends to overcome raid challenges is something I had never done before Destiny, and have not done since.

It's because Joseph Staten left (Destiny 1's lead writer).  I believe it was speculated that he originally  intended the Vex to be the main antagonists.  But then the story got chopped up into separate DLCs by Activision.

I always say to people: "Destiny was my favorite game that I can't play any more." So much of the game is a hollow facsimile of what I used to love. The mystery, the community, everything that made me fall in love with it has slowly dwindled. The final straw for me, as with many people, was sunsetting; it was the proof that this was no longer a game that wanted your enjoyment, but a game that wanted your time and money.

Great vid, beautifully written

I first played Destiny in 5th grade on Xbox. Given the expansive world and content of Destiny to explore as a space wizard, it was a literal kid’s dream. I was carried by some very patient people through my first Wrath of the Machine raid. They spent nearly two hours teaching and explaining to a little squeaker—who sucked on a controller—the ins and outs of the raid with no benefit to them. Yet, they may have unknowingly shaped a core part of my life for the next eight years.

Then Destiny 2 released. I was older, more experienced in gaming, and had more free time than I knew what to do with. I took Destiny 2 head-on and did everything it had to offer. I played all three classes but still mained the space wizard I originally dreamed about. I got serious about raiding, dabbled in speedrunning, and spent hours grinding through day-one raids—placing in the top 50 in one. I met friends I’ve known and played with for over five years. Over the years, I racked up around 4,000 hours in Destiny.

It’s extremely depressing seeing the fall of Destiny, knowing all those hours will soon be nothing more than a solid number and everlasting memories. The endless collection of weapons and armor I gathered will simply sit in my vault, collecting dust. What I’d give to relive those moments—every boss kill, dungeon clear, painful farm, and exotic drop—just one more time.

Unfortunately, Destiny’s story has come to a close. The very Darkness that was hinted at year after year since Destiny 1 has finally been conquered. Now, it feels like there’s no more reason for my Warlock to log in—no great evil to pursue, no city to defend, and no new corners of space to explore.

The only thing I can say is:

Thank you, Destiny, for the unforgettable and nostalgic memories you gave me. And if, somehow, the galaxy truly needs my Warlock once more, I will be there. But until then, goodbye.

I remember being in middle school and managing to log 150 hours in destiny’s initial release. Every spare minute I had was poured into this game. I remember getting a badass iron banner ship in the beta. I remember annoying all my classmates by talking about the game too much.

No one wanted to drag a kid into raids or anything, so I never got to really experience the end game, but I can relate to a lot of the sentiment in this video.
