To take a full swing and hit just "the top of the ball" making it roll inches off the tee, all while not giving it a 2nd thought or any planning, while talking....is priceless.
I've had issues with my driver for my entire golf playing life. After watching this video, I tried what Paul teaches. I've been driving the ball almost perfectly ever since. I've went from bad drives 80% of the time down to less than 10%. My drives are longer and better aimed then ever before. Nice slight draws that go exactly where I intend them to go. I think every golfer having issues driving the ball off the tee should watch this video.
The grip is the key to hitting straight for me...Second is the stance and where you align the ball...And third is stroke force not putting too much effort into the swing...Fourth is the take away and last but not least is weight transference when you swing.
I don't like listening to people talk so much but i fought through this and will help you all with the 2 minutes of helpful tips from the 20 minute video.
*Actionable driver tips from this:*
1. *Don’t “try” to create lag.* Lag should happen naturally from a relaxed grip, relaxed arms, a good backswing load, and proper weight shift. Forcing lag usually slows the swing down.
2. *Relax your grip and arms.* Think “holding the club,” not strangling it. Loose arms let the club whip through instead of being muscled.
3. *Stay behind the ball, but don’t fall backward.* Good drivers are behind the ball at impact, but their weight still moves forward through the shot. Falling back usually leads to slices, weak contact, or trying to lift the ball.
4. *Move through the ball.* A good simple test: after impact, you should feel like you could step forward. If you’re finishing on your back foot, something is off.
5. *For more distance, don’t just swing harder.* Azinger’s big distance key was relaxed arms, getting behind the ball, rotating through, and launching it a little higher — not trying to murder it.
6. *Control trajectory to hit it straighter.* Instead of obsessing over left/right, pick the height/window you want the ball to launch through. Focusing on trajectory can calm down big misses.
7. *Ball position with driver should be forward.* He talks about playing it somewhere between the big toe and heel, while still staying behind it and moving through.
8. *“Covering the ball” means your weight is moving correctly.* It doesn’t mean chopping down on it. It means your body is moving into the shot instead of hanging back.
9. *A fade shouldn’t be a weak hold-off.* A good fade is still released. Let the swing path create the fade instead of blocking the clubface and losing distance.
10. *Have one or two simple swing thoughts.* His were basically: relaxed arms, turn level, lower body first. Simple beats overthinking.
*Main takeaway:* effortless power beats powerless effort. Relax the arms, load the club, move through the ball, and let the release happen instead of forcing it.
