I enjoy the gem mining loop a lot more than ship mining and always getting stuck with rocks too big to break.

pro tip - scan all the gems before cracking, and then juggle the laser between two or three at a time. Good fun and quick.

Just getting back into SC after a long break (pre-Pyro) .. and so much has changed. I appreciate these guides!

The Nomad is my go to vehicle for GEO mining. There's enough space for the GEO, a couple of 2 SCU boxes in the back and bedlog for shifting servers. You forgot to mention you can jump straight onto the Nomad back in the Atlas GEO. That's one of most fun thing with it.

This kind of, "just go out and explore to find the good stuff" gamplay sounds awesome and is exactly what I'm looking for. I don't suffer the burden of billions of aUEC so doing an honest bit of gem mining sounds great.

man i was looking for a gems specific guide like just earlier today. thank you for your work

I'm surprised that scanning ships like the Terrapin and Cutter Scout don't provide gem quality details.

Excellent guide, thank you LG. I've been gem mining since I rejoined the game last week, but it's been slow going. Your Org is looking very good right now.

Great guide thank you! I followed your guide and found a stack of 1000 quality Janalite on my first node 🤯

jumping back in since pre update 4, seeing the atlas be used for hand mining, which is different than ROC mining??? oh yeah I needed the guide to set me right first. Wonderful as always

Great guide, glad you're doing them

Golem can be quite handy in finding high quality mineables as once you found one; you can simply park the golem in front of the designated target, exit the golem and get straight to mining.

@11:25 estimating X% power
I think you can get a rough idea from the mass and resistance. I made a spreadsheet for my Prospector a few patches back and it looked like I needed 100% power (Helix+Focus+Reiger) for a 20K rock at 0% resistance, so (mass/(1-resistance))/20K was the rough fraction stable power.

I recently started mining after getting a lot of blueprints I wanted.. all was good until I need Savrilium.. That single material made me actual learn the ins and out of mining...
and when I finally cracked my first 30k rock I legit felt like a badass :D I mean only got 1 scu of decent savrilium and had to go back for surges but still :D I can finally craft my powerplant.. and actually regret not getting into mining sooner... It's pretty chill once you understand it and makes tons of money as well

Nice presentation mate, ......surely the ROC will get the power change option like the Geo........ surely... 😮

im using a prowler utility for geomining, i call it the geoprowler3000

Thanks for the video. Learned a lot of new stuff. Well deserved like and Sub. Can you share where you find Janalite without being in caves please?

@LoudGuns nice guide, was very useful to get me started! What planet/moon is it at the end, by the way?

@applecrow8 6 months ago

I really wish the raid gems were available as very rare spawns elsewhere. There just aren't enough Hathor locations available and it descends into endless combat.

Tip: If you're hand-mining with the Multitool, there's a ring that fills up when your indicator is in the green zone. Once it fills, the node collapses and your beam shuts off.
If I'm clearing out all nodes in a cluster, I will manually turn off my laser when the ring is around 3/4 full and get started on the next node. It takes long enough for the node to "cool down" that it usually collapses as I'm starting on the next one. This only saves a few seconds, but it builds up over time. It's also satisfying as heck when you time this out right.
