Swapped from 13s to 10s on my gs mini koa plus.
I made the decision after a week as i dont play live, spend half of my life trying to be quiet when the kids go to bed and i wanted a more delicate play while picking blues run the game/bug collector style songs.
Was 100% the right choice.

I have the gs mini Koa plus and its my lounge guitar. I play it every day. Half a step down like you, and I have put 12's on it. No neck issues. You do lose a bit of umph, but it's a loud guitar to begin with, so no biggie. It's a great guitar; not cheap, but not so expensive that you've got to treat it with kid gloves, unlike my high-end guitar collection.

I am fortunate to have “a few” guitars. I’m fascinated about how The GS Mini nevvver loses it’s appeal to please. How many of “us” ha e had the experience of starting on a cheap instrument, poor playability, poor sound… verrry discouraging, whereas if you r fortunate to have parents to support a good instrument from the start like the GSMini… You never want to put it down. I was nooot that fortunate of course. But, I have a grandchild with a grandpa(😀) who can afford giving one to Her 😍😍😍 I enjoyed your review a lot 🙏😍

OMG that koa sounds awesome! I just got a GS mini in blue (spruce top) and still have the stock strings on it. The store have me a fresh pack of stock D'Addario strings for use later. I love how my GS mini sounds when other people play it. I'm just starting out, so everything sounds like an explosion when I try to play. It's s lovely guitar.

Helpful video, thanks. The 23.5" short scale on the mini allows Taylor to up to mediums and reduce string floppyness and get the soundboard moving. The 10s sound like Nick Drake's dead string tone, maybe because they're just not moving the top very much so you're hearing more string than guitar, cool sound though.

D'addario Xs 12's on my GS koa plus, 11's on my Tanglewood Union (converted with Fishman Blend) and Rotosound Nexus 11's on my Tanglewood Evo cutaway (it's all they had in the shop 😕). This is where I ended up after trying lots of combos. Couldn't be happier. Nice vid, great playing.

I love my GS Mini and play it regularly. I've been using 10s on it for about 6 years and have had no issues and it's never needed adjustment. I like being able use bends in my playing and the 10s make that much easier 😊

I have two gs minis. Koa plus and the Rosewood natural 50th anniversary. For me I never use 13. As soon as I got my minis, I changed the string to 12. Now I’m using 11s. It does lose some volumes but it is a lot easier on my arm/fingers, as I’m suffering with an injury. It actually brings out mellower woodier tone with the 11 gauge strings when finger picking.

I just had the strings on my GS Mini Mahogany changed from the original medium strings to D'Addario XT Custom Light strings (0.11-0.52). The truss rod was also adjusted accordingly. The old strings must have been on the guitar for about a year and I've played it almost daily for about 9 months now. So of course the sound with the new strings is different but I can't tell if it is just because of the fact that the strings are new, different brand, different coating or different gauge... the sound is still "big" and clear and it is so much easier to play now. I will try the Elixir Custom Lights with nanoweb coating next and probably stick with the custom light gauge.

I have my mini set up for high strung Nashville Tuning… sounds and plays great.

On my mahogany version, the 13s are absolutely perfect because they let that mellow tone fall right into place.
Anything lighter would be counterintuitive. I just wish Taylor would give us more string spacing and a slightly fatter neck to allow us who have larger paws to play with complete comfort.

Thank you for posting great information tried 13 strings and I tried 11s I came to the conclusion that I like the 12s the best they're slightly easier to play than the 13s the 11s gave me string buzz and just didn't sound as full to my hearing😊
