The station building turned out great with the "random" browns and morter wash. Really nice.

Edit: everything turned out great.

Don't worry about different colour bricks on the chimney. Our 1930's house is yellow brick with a red/brown brick chimney!

Love when a fellow modeler can see beyond and is constantly thinking outside the box. Fair play to ya 👍👍

As a fellow railway modeller, something that we always have to remember, is that we really are just playing trains. No matter how serious we think we are about it. Great work on the buildings!

That platform shelter is looking awesome.  There's a definite Southern Region feel to it in cream and green.
I might buy one and put it in the  black white and grey scheme of the 1970s

Love this kind of modelling. Superb.

I'm not a big train guy but the Hornby platform shelter is a lovely little piece 👌

The Hornby lineside shelter was the first station building I used on my... you guessed it... Great Western Branchline!
It's the main building on a very small intermediate station. Painted, with detailing added it looks great.
I converted the little room to be a tiny ticket office.

The platform shelter, my friend was selling a red one for 2€, I thought that I can do something with that, so I got it. Not done anything to it yet, but you have given me more ideas of what to do.
Thank you.
Malcolm

I don't know about in your area, but in mine, many wooden huts and outbuildings are painted with sump oil to preserve them from the weather and bugs. Your little sheds really look like something that has been coated with sump oil and covered in layers of smoke. Nicely done!

I wish I could randomly find some old hornby bits

Im not a railway modeller but this was great to watch. I play wargames and our buildings are just as important.

Buying a really good building would be BORING, but buying an unrealistic one, and making it realistic is interesting, and I presume quite therapeutic.

I remember some cheap chinese HO like battery operated sets from the 1990s 2000...  trains were average-poor, tracks awful , accessories (trees , posts , signs ...) to throw away...  But small buildings , platforms , cabin really had a lot of potential ...

Superb work as always, and a great use of older and unloved models. Very much inspiring me to do something similar!

Always like watching your modelling videos Nigel.  You bring stuff "down"  to normal !!

Thanks as always

That's really interesting, I enjoyed seeing this video, showing what can be done to make toys more realistic on the railway thanks for sharing, J

I had not thought of using a green wash for the roofs, great idea.
Airbrushing aside, this looks like a very easy introduction to some proper modelling using readily available and cheap models and materials. There are thousands of those lineside huts knocking about; they are always turning up in job lots! And the platform shelter certainly lends itself to some nice detailing -- I have a couple waiting, and will no doubt pinch some ideas!

Great idea for a waiting room on one of my stations, cheers 👍🏻

Hi. Recent new subscriber and totally agree with you. Look underneath trade counters at exhibitions and you can find some real bargains, sometimes making a ridiculous offer and they may accept just to get rid of it. It's good to start off with a blank canvas building, somtimes finishing it as a unique project.
