Part of the annoyingness of my current schooling is that I have this annoying class at SAIS called SAIS Seminar. It's a class that theoretically could be amazing, but is absolutely atrociously planned. There is a long lecture and then a breakout session afterwards (what in undergrad we would have called recitation), and these two parts of class have basically zero connection, so it feels like we're taking two clashing classes in one. The TAs are trying, and the professor is trying, but just because they're trying doesn't mean we're getting our money's worth. Also, the geniuses at work put the entire admitted cohort in this lecture too in an attempt to give us one class we all take. But we have no time to actually do any group activity (besides be miserable together). This class is absolutely stressful, bulky, disorganized for no reason. On top of that, it's so early in the morning (I have to wake up by 6:30 and some of my classmates with crazy commutes have to wake up by 5). And most of us have another class after this morning lecture (if not two classes). This class is trying to be an survey class in International Relations issues, so it jumps topics every week, so some classmates have remarked, "It's like we're taking a different class every week." I wouldn't be surprised if this class leads to someone having a mental breakdown/has lead to someone having a mental breakdown already. If Hopkins ever wants to beat Georgetown and truly be the number 1 international relations school, it has to figure out how to drastically change this class (if not get rid of it completely).

Thanks for letting me get this off my chest.

Becoming proficient at driving a car requires more than just theory and driving in your own yard.

That poor guy looked like a fish out of water with all that arm and foot flapping.
Each strike to his face reduced his belt stripes. 😂

Damn. Bare knuckle . Glad the dude opted for palm strikes when he was on top. Fascinating matches

Pankido is a hilarious name. They mixed the Greek word "pan", meaning "universal", with the Japanese 気道. unfortunately, they didn't check what "pan" means in Japanese. Pan means bread. So Pankido in Japanese means the "way of bread energy".

Ah the ancient art of the flopping-around-like-a-fish-on-dry-land technique...

This is quality control for those traditionalists that hide behind forms and demonstrations.

The tired commentary with the Butokukai guys flopping about and tapping made my morning lol

It’s like a wall hanger martial art. No real function but intended for viewing purposes only.

真の強さへの道は、醜い自分を曝け出す事から始まる。

This is why you train full contact. A real fight is not light sparring. Cool video.

This feels like a prime example of a martial art making people legit worse at fighting than they would just be if they never trained. Like an untrained person would just probably start throwing haymakers and do better than these guys. “We trained him wrong, as a joke”

Without some form of sparring, you cant be  a proper martial artists, alot of traditional martial arts do a form of sparing nowadays.  Full contact might also be detremental sometimes because of potential injuries, so theres a good middle ground somewhere

Dude your eyes are in another dimension😂

This looked like footage from France so I did a little research. This is footage from a tournament called Les Ceintures d'Or (the Golden Belts), and it was a first attempt at making a MMA style tournament in France, watched by the French karate federation (the FFK oversees a lot of different styles, not just traditional karate). Since MMA was non-existent in France, they tried calling every style out there that looked like it. This footage in particular opposes fighters from Butokukai Jiu-jitsu and Pankido, two styles created in France respectively by Stefano Surace and Patrick Lombardo. The Butokukai guy looks pretty controversial from what I've seen, very criticized for being just short of bullshido, but the Pankido thing looks really legit, it's pretty much MMA in a gi, think Kudo ; founder was a former kenpo guy who was trying to run MMA-style tournaments in the late 80's and ended up founding Pankido.
It sure looks rough but this is some historical stuff here, at least for French martial arts. I'd like to remind everyone that MMA itself was banned, as in illegal, in France until very recently, so the only way to compete with that kind of ruleset was through this kind of stuff. At least Pankido looks really good.

Ha! For a moment I thought you were saying we were classmates! 😄 Nonetheless, I do follow your channel too, so that makes it 3!

Ooof morning classes and a long commute sounds like hell :/ i definitely dont function well at school or work if I dont sleep much multiple days in a row.

2nd student was trying the Hurticane!

It seriously only took one kick for him to flee? They should've stripped him of that black belt. There is absolutely no way he is anything resembling a black belt; a white belt at most.
