My first “mini bike”, my dad surprised me with in circa 1973.  It was used and he had it in his trunk.  He came home and asked me to give him a hand “with something”, I didn’t want to, but I did.  That Honda 70 was the beginnings of what turned me into a man.  My dad was my best man, thank you God for that.

In 1971, I finally talked my Dad into helping me buy a used 1968 Honda Mini-Trail 50. Had a lot of fun on that bike and it would fit in the trunk of the family car. Those were very simple machines that were easy to work on, no computers, screens and didn't require electronics to be fun.

My cousin had a gold one in the 70’s and my dad got me an orange one in the late 70’s. It was great. Went everywhere on it.

I bought a 1977 Honda CT 70 brand new, and it cost $ 453.00 dollars. I lived in a suburb about 30 miles east of Los Angeles.  My first long-distance trip took me to Santa Rosa California.  The highlight of the trip was when I rode across the Golden Gate bridge.  My second long-distance trip to me to Lake Tahoe and back. Over the course of 3 1/2 years, i put over 33,000 miles on the bike. The 1977 model had a key type helmet lock on the left hand side of the bike ( not some cheapie rubber strap  ) an engine skid plate,  a big bike style speedometer indicating mph & kmh, blinkers and fold down handle bars and real hydraulic front forks. Since it had a keihin carburetor, the only part of the engine that was electrical was the ignition coil ( located inside the frame-body ) . Top speed was 55 mph,  fuel economy was about 120 miles per gallon.

What a cool guy, love the garage, the bikes, the dog, the Toyota.  Great - now I want a Honda mini bike, dang it!!!

When I was young I stayed at a campground for the summer. Had my CT 70 and used it to check out the trail’s. To get to the trails I had to cross a river and at times the river would be very high (Deep) at the start of the run crossing the river had no bad issues. But coming back when the engine was very hot crossing the river led to cold seizure at times. Because the head of the motor would be completely underwater it would contract and grab the piston and seize the engine. A few minutes to let the engine parts cool to the same temperature would allow the engine to be restarted. Some crossings would seize the engine in the middle of the river and that led to a crankcase full of water.
This lead to a lot of oil changes but the engine survived this abuse over and over. The CT 70 was a very well built tough and reliable trail bike.
It was a used and well beat up bike I bought for a couple hundred dollars as a beater. Great little bikes.

CT70 had a centrifugal oil filter in the clutch.

Like the DAX, wish Honda would offer a model with more of an off-road trim, really just needs a high fender and knobby tires.

I suppose it would not be good to flip the right handlebar down turning the hydraulic brake reservoir upside down. This is an excellent and entertaining video. No AI voice either.  Thank you.

Long live the Mini-Trail !!!

* have CT70 expert on hand
* still do most of the talking

Honda kid in the 70's here ......i still get excited seeing these little bikes 50 yrs later . They 're true with brand loyalty .....Honda cars always been my choice as well .

I Salute to those people who value Machines and keep them in good conditions .❤

The Dax 125 is based on the Honda ST90. A larger frame version of the CT70. The frame and dimensions of the Dax are similar to the St90. The CT70 is significantly smaller. .

I'm in Belgium and grew up with the DAX. Core memories...

They were not called DAX officially tho.
It's what the people called it and honda adopted the name.

1969 Honda 50, 1970 trail 70, I've had both for 46 years. Great little motorcycles!

Absolutely love this video. As a guy in his 50's who grew up around the CT70 and always wanting one, I'm now looking to buy a CT70 and a DAX125 to relive my youth.

Don't put the dip stick back in without a good wipe-down.

It wasn't the Dax in Canada  . It was called the 70 here . I was 14 when they came out and wanted one .
