Here's how to make the very best chicken feed in winter. And for us humans: Kimchi recipe as a substitute for sauerkraut – delicious!

In winter, chickens find hardly any greens outside in the garden. That makes it all the more important to bring them plenty of fresh greens from the kitchen into the coop. When temperatures drop below freezing, make sure you provide fresh water daily.

Have you ever heard of kimchi? It comes from Korea and is similar to sauerkraut – both are fermented with lactic acid. Here's what you need for kimchi:

1 large Chinese cabbage
2 carrots
1 radish
1 bunch of spring onions
1 onion
3 heads of garlic
1 piece of ginger
2-3 tablespoons of chili flakes
2-3 tablespoons of paprika powder
2-3 tablespoons of fish sauce (optional)
Weigh all the vegetables. The amount of salt used to rub the Chinese cabbage should be approximately 2% of the vegetables' weight.
