A history note that didn't make the video: there were two big builds of Affinity. The first one is the one we played today with Skullclamp, which is sort of an artifact aristocrats aggro deck. Then in June of 2004 they banned Skullclamp, so Affinity shifted to being more of a straight up aggro deck with Ornithopter, Cranial Plating and Blinkmoth Nexus. Then in March of 2005 Wizards banned all the artifact lands, Arcbound Ravager and Disciple of the Vault too, which killed the second build of the deck and finally ended Affinity's reign.

I think the Skullclamp build is the stronger of the two because Skullclamp is so busted, which is why we played that one for the tournament, but the non-Skullclamp aggro build was also really good.

I have such specific memories of you playing against Golos Field. Hearing it was in 2019 is a punch in the gut.

I’m sure this series is nostalgic for many, but I’m also loving it as someone who only got into magic a few years ago! So cool to see all these older decks in action

Seth not wrathing with that giant game 1 was such a disrespect to the affinity potential. There is no way he should have lost that game

22:25 Seth punted so hard by playing the Giant instead of wiping the board, then afterwards playing the 3rd field.
The only way how he can lose (and how he lost) is if Richard burns him out next turn and getting rid of effectively 4 card draws from the clamp and two sacc outlets is one of the ways to greatly reduce the chance of losing.

Affinity is not an aggro deck, it's a combo deck with an aggro option. Skullclamp actually made the deck slower and it got faster when clamp was banned.

Its funny how we all remember affinity as an aggressive creature list becaise we think about it in a world without disciple of the vault. Truly one of the greatest cards of all time and printed at common, no less.
