Jim Carrey being called crazy recently for talking about how meaningless things are has made this movie age perfectly

The most tragic thing for me was how his millions of followers moved on instantly without questions when Truman  left , no sorrow , no wondering how he was , no guilt , just on to the next reality show ,

Fun Fact: "Director Peter weir wanted to have camera installed in every theater the film was shown in, having the projectionist cut the power at the end, cut to the viewers footage then cut back to the film. ''
Imagine how amazing it would have been.

Theres a theory that Truman knew the entire time (at least from the beginning of the movie) and that the movie is actually not about him finding out but everyone else around him finding out how much he knows. The scene at the beginning where he is on all fours working in the garden is about 9 minutes into the film. Later he escaped out the basement and through the yard. Him in the garden with his butt to the camera was to hide that he was digging the hole to escape then! Also his final line and the bow he took at the end was a reveal that he indeed played them all pretending to not know or discover the truth. Just a theory

“The best way to Keep a prisoner from Escaping is to make sure he Never knows he’s in prison.”
- Fyodor Dostoevsky -

Why didn't you talk about the final scene of the film? It's really important imo. The viewers who were spellbound by Truman's escape immediately return to their daily lives in complete apathy. I would say this is hugely applicable today with people's attention span for even very important events lasting mere minutes before they seek the next distraction.

After I saw this movie as a kid, I walked out of the theater KNOWING this movie was onto something.  It really changed my perspective.

Another thing is, when Truman finally leaves, we stop seeing him because there are no cameras filming him.

Every time someone talks about this film, it almost sounds like a conspiracy theory, and I feel like that’s what the writers intended.

The Truman Show is one of the greatest, most original, well written, and philosophical, films of 1990s. It's truly ahead of its time and though relevant, still criminally underrated.

My mother was an extra in this film. At times you can see our family vehicle driving past, and filmed down the road from my home. One of the best movies of all time

Anyone from 2026?

I was watching the Truman show many years ago with my brother. he turned to me and asked don't you think Truman would have noticed a lot earlier, considering all the weird cover-ups that had to happen when things went wrong?

A lot of strange things happen in our world. A lot of people would prefer to ignore them, as they intuitively know that pulling on any thread might leave that cloth in tatters.

however, it seems many have a point where they can't pretend any longer, and we've seen that over the last two years

Most people have willingly turned their lives into the "Truman Show" by putting every detail of their lives online.

His best friend lies to him, betrays his trust, and that scene alone broke my heart!

I’ve been saying we are living in The Truman Show for years.  I knew I couldn’t be the only one who tied our reality to this movie 😊

They weren't warning us, they were laughing all the way to the bank while they told us what they were doing.

“Not a bad person, just not a real person “ this has been such a revelation . This is such a great line for everyone we love but who is so conditioned to the habitus that they can’t even see they’re own conditioning.

It was interesting that many viewers were expecting Jim to be funny. I'm glad he kept doing films that challenged him into more serious roles.
