Ranking Every Horror Book I’ve Read in 2026 (By Horror Subgenre)

Tina Books | TBR, etc.

It's time to rank every horror book I've read so far this year!

Instead of throwing all 10 books into one giant list, I'm breaking them down by horror subgenre: creepy houses, social horror, maybe it's cannibals, body horror, and survival horror. In each category, I'll rank the books I've read, share a bonus recommendation for horror fans, and spotlight a book from my TBR that I'm hoping to get to soon.

No matter your taste- haunted houses, unsettling social commentary, grotesque body horror, stories that make you question what's for dinner, or characters fighting to survive impossible situations, there's something for every horror reader!

Let me know in the comments:
🖤 What's the best horror book you've read this year?
🖤 Which horror subgenre is your favorite?
🖤 What horror book should I add to my TBR next?

Time Stamps:
1:08 Creepy House
5:48 Social Horror
10:18 Maybe It's Cannibals
13:38 Body Horror
16:46 Survival Horror
19:28 Final Ranking

I really enjoyed Fantastic Land when I read it about a year ago. Now I want to listen to the audiobook 😊

Well, we must pronounce it the same way because I didn’t even see where you said it wrong. It sounded perfectly right to me, but thank you for investing your time and I have gotten quite a few books on my TBR that you have recommended again thank you.

Also, the adaptation of The Ruins (I have not read the book, however)….so the film was sooo good! I rewatch it periodically and it’s a definite favorite of mine.

Ooh! I’ve been waiting for this video🤩🥳😍. I also really liked The Caretaker, Tina!….ok, gotta finish watching now😂

I have most of these on TBR but I have to say I really enjoyed When the Wolf Comes Home last month. I would definitely read more Nat Cassidy. I really enjoyed this ranking video! Thank you Tina :)

I loooooved We Used to Live Here but I am absolutely on the "hate" side of love/hate with The Caretaker. it's not because of the ending, it's because of the whole format of the book and the main character. I felt like the entire book was like this:
1. Macy has a ritual to do
2. Macy screws up the ritual
3. Macy opens the envelope that says something like "OPEN IF YOU SCREW UP THE RITUAL"
4. envelope has another ritual to do
5. Macy screws that up too
6. something that reads like a creepypasta I have read ten times before happens.
this happened so many times it was getting absurd. I also just could not stand Macy, like she screwed up due to the stupidest things, and then sat around and moped about it so melodramatically, but never got better. at the same time, Macy is explicitly suicidally depressed, so this book feels incredibly cruel in a way.

idk. I didn't even find it scary. I really do not like this book at all! but ofc I am happy if others do.

I completely agree with you on Molka. However, I did like The Eyes are the Best Part, and I tend to agree with most of your recs, so I’m curious to see what you’ll think of it

I have read many of these books. About to read tradwife. I'm curious to hear what you think of the eyes are the best part, I gave it (one of very few 5 stars) 5⭐️!
I enjoy any ranking video.

I think you would like Dead Weight by Hildur Knutsdottir (Tor Publishing Group). Not sure how to classify this book but it definitely has body horror elements. I loved the writing. The two main characters are women who are in relationships that are, shall we say, not healthy. And there is a black cat. The Prologue hooked me. I could not put it down, luckily it was only 148 pages and so I only stayed up to the early wee hours and not all night. I do enjoy your reviews -- I am mostly a mystery-suspense-thriller gal.
