Mark Knopfler and his chicken picken is one of the best things I have learned that I missed. Thank goodness for the internet that gives us access to gold! No one talked about Dire Straits in Latin America. Thank you all for hanging out for our first time watching Dire Straits' Brothers In Arms.

Hi everybody. Due to copyrights, I had to actually removed the music from this video. Thank you for still hanging as we discuss the song and how fun it has been to learn about Mark Knopfler!

MK's lyrics are as strong as hs guitar playing. He's a poetic soul and all-round genius.

If he had decided to never say a word, I would have loved this as an instrumental, but the lyrics have me reaching for tissues every time.

I'm an Army vet from back in the Reagan days. To me, this song is a hymn.

He is selftaught, he learnt his pickingstyle by himself. Really freaking cool. Oh and Mark can get anyone up on stage with him... He used to play alot with Eric Clapton.

The lyrics are heart wrenching. you definitely need to listen to it again with the lyrics to fully feel this song. The message will touch your soul

Always beautiful. I personally prefer the original song, but Dire Straits I can listen to it all day long no matter what.

This is anthem if every veteran who have seen combat. We are blessed with so many brothers and sisters in arms, and cursed with the memory that we couldent bring them all home with us. But the live forever in our hearts and minds, never to be forgotten.

Mark Knopfler could play a one-string washtub bass and it would still sound like him. It's in the fingers.

My son served in The United States Marine Corps for 20 years. I get choked up every time I hear this song.

The entire Brothers in Arms album is a masterpiece. I would highly recommend Ride Across the River particularly if you like Brothers in Arms.

You can see clearly the pain in Mark's face as he sings this tribute to ALL his countrymen who died in the Falklands conflict. I hope you'll watch the original video of this as it is, in its way, as powerful a performance as this one.

Telegraph Road by Dire Straits also has a beatiful solo, definitely worth reacting

This is why I always say, if you want to hear the lyrics and hear what the song's about, always listen to the studio version first. Once you know the song, by all means listen to a live version.

Thank you for playing this song from this particular performance. This version, with the string quartet, has completely etched itself in my soul. Long story short, this song literally turned my life around. I was 15 and walked past the hangars where they were bringing home the 242 Marines murdered in the Beirut barracks bombing. Barely 3 months later, 15 airmen in my Dad's squadton perished in an instant on a snow-covered mountain in Spain. Several were basically older brothers to me. That squadron was our family. I lost touch of my reality when dad was assigned to a base in northern California. I was skipping school, fighting with my parents constantly. One day, my buddy pulled up and showed me the new Dire Straits album, and when this song came on, it grabbed ahold and shook me to my core. Basically, screaming into my soul, "Wake up, Chris, WAKE UP!!!" It was too late to repair two wasted semesters. I knew also I had to honor those ghosts in my life and even my fathers service by enlisting. Sadly, every service was flush with enlistee's, and though I eventually went into the Marine Corps, there was a 6 month wait after I graduated.

If you ever get around to listening to "Romeo and Juliet," make sure you pull up the video from this same performance. It is so poignant. To this day, that song breaks my heart and makes my eye's get watery...

This is a military anthem in the United Kingdom. Every soldier, sailor and airman knows this song past and present. It speaks lyrically about the incredible sense of brotherhood the military share for life. Its beautiful, heartfelt and encapsulates everything the military is about.

Sebs, you owe it to yourself to listen to the studio version or the original video from the studio version to better appreciate the message being masterfully conveyed.
