The ending absolutely IS supposed to be ambiguous. There are three main possibilities; that Sister Barnes genuinely did come back to life to kill Mr. Reed in a religious miracle, that she somehow wasn't dead the whole time and had just enough strength left to take him out, or that everything that happened after Sister Paxton was stabbed was actually a hallucination she was having while she was bleeding out and dying in the basement.

I think the halucination ending is by far the most proabable because it's heavily foreshadowed throughout the film with all of the talk about near death experiences. Plus, there's the whole thing with the butterfly appearing and disappearing at the very end, implying that she may be seeing things that aren't actually real. The song in the closing credits is literally called "Knocking On Heaven's Door" which would also be fitting with this interpretation of the ending.

I think Mr. Reed put his head on Sister Paxton's heart in the end to see if she was still alive, then slit her throat with the blade to finally kill her.  She even said praying didn't really matter, so her friend coming back to life by a some miracle and saving her was not real.  (Just like the prophet's resurrection was not real.)  Her escape was the hallucination her mind created in her last moments.  She didn't realize she was dead until she saw herself as the butterfly land on her own finger to tell her it was her.  Like she foreshadowed about the adult actress in the beginning, we saw her soul leave her body.  Hopefully, Mr. Reed did not survive because I would hate to see a Heretic 2.  This film is perfect as a one off.

Metal in the walls...I can relate.  I live on a narrowboat which is made of steel, and the signal sucks.  Love your channel

You are def a pick me up for me, your sence of humor makes me smile. Keep Rockin

2:52 it’s funny you say “this is when you shut the door” because I feel like one of the reasons she’s talking so fast is because she’s used to people closing the door on her mid sentence and she wants to get all the info out before that happens

30:26 No, Its actually not Lana's song

It’s so crazy irresponsible the Mormon Church sending young people knocking on strangers doors 😮
My brain was pretty exploded 🤯 watching Hugh as the bad guy!
Love your reactions so much 🥰 thanks for making me feel less weird about initially agreeing with Hugh about organised religions 😂

The Night Comes For Us might be up your alley. It's not horror or anything, it's martial arts but taken to the extreme.

Casting Hugh Grant as the villain was genius.

Can't wait for new HotD reactions! Are they now will be posted once a month? I love your perspective and sense of humour!

I was a Colin Firth girl too.  Like I loooved High Grant until I found out his actual personality, and my attraction to him immediately turned off.  It's so weird how that happens.

28:05 omg I HAD THE SAME THOUGHT. She's crying because she knows she has to commit the sin of murder to save herself. I liked this movie a lot and you were VERY perceptive! Mad kudos to you. im subscribing

There is a Cube Trilogy

Cube
Cube 2 Hypercube
Cube Zero

I like the beginning and middle parts of the movie, but I didn't like the ending. But at the end of the day, I still will say it's an amazing movie.

I’m sorry… in what universe is he NOT the crazy person?  He was embodying all the worst aspects of religion… manipulation, gaslighting, etc., to control people… all the while reminding them they chose this path.  But, of course, it’s not an informed choice, and in some cases the deck is so stacked as to make the choice meaningless.

So even if every single thing he says seems truthful to you, does any of it justify his actions?  You can believe he’s correct in his ideas, but certainly not in his actions.  The girls may be misled by their church, and the church may be bad, but these girls are not.

Also, I can see how people can watch this and agree with his anti-religious rhetoric.  It’s a common viewpoint already among many.  I believe this as well.  But people then leap to not believing in “God”, the creator, that power that makes something out of the void, etc.  Rejecting religion’s portrayal of that creative force doesn’t invalidate its existence.

Faith in that can still be valid.  Prayer can still be valid as well because the study mentioned was “blind”, which is viewed as pure.  But when someone is being prayed for, and they know that fact, it can make a difference.  Call it the placebo effect, or whatever, but it’s real.  Just because it cannot be explained rationally the very real effects should not be ignored.

Brilliant..... but i wish you didn't speed it up so much... It was a bit hard to understand

The movie is too wordy and convo heavy i guess. Not many would like that but i do appreciate the game/ fast good comparisons. That was pretty clever. And tbh i believe she died in that place, her belief( the character) is diffirent tho.

Religion is control was his point.  The butterfly was a hallucination.  Conjecture as to whether Barnes was resurrected, the beginning of her hallucination, or she actually just had enough strength to kill him before succumbing is vague, intentionally or not.

Unmentioned is the irony of reincarnation as a butterfly is not a concept in mormonism or any christian sect.

I think the end pretty much established religion as control ie he was correct, but the idea was to cause internal conflict in viewers having issue agreeing w a serial killer.

All the religious content in this movie is basic information that anyone could learn in a comparative religion class. I felt the writers of this movie put a religious or anti-religious gloss on a serial killer movie.

Good performances, though.

GURRLL I LIKE YOUR MOVIE REACTION VIDEO!❤If you like religious horror movies, I would like to recommend a religious horror movie from Indonesia🇮🇩, the title is "THE GRAVE TORTURE" THAT'S a good slowburn horror movie to!❤
