your love for The Albatross gives me life!!!  i think its a standout on the album that constantly gets overlooked

Ok, so The Manuscript. There is so much context here... So, when she was 19 she dated a musician who was 32 (Songs for future reference: Dear John and Would've Could've Should've) and at 20 she dated an actor who was 29 (The entirety of the RED album but specifically the song All Too Well which is important to note for this song). In both relationships she felt taken advantage of by older men because... well, she was. The Manuscript starts with her rereading the manuscript, aka her past work. She has been rerecording her old albums so she can own her work (Scooter owns her masters, but in rerecording, she owns the new versions and her fans have supported her by buying and streaming the Taylor's Version rather than the og versions Scooter owns). In rerecording those old albums she is revisiting those experiences and looking back on them with an older perspective.

"In the age of him, she wished she was thirty
And made coffee every morning in a French press
Afterwards she only ate kids' cereal
And couldn't sleep unless it was in her mother's bed
Then she dated boys who were her own age
With dart boards on the backs of their doors
She thought about how he said since she was so wise beyond her years
Everything had been above board
She wasn't sure"

After dating those older men she dated guys who were around her age and seeing the differences between the maturity of those older men and the boys everyone said she should be dating she starting to realize how messed up it was that they dated her and then said "Yeah, you're too young for me actually" and how that has affected her in all her subsequent relationships. Then we move forward and she's rerecording her songs. When she originally wrote All Too Well it was 10 minutes long, and she edited it down to 5 minutes for the album. For the rerecording of RED she added the full 10 minute version of the song and wrote and directed a short film to go with it. She is friends with a lot of actors and directors so I think the professor is referring to a director who is mentoring her on directing All Too Well 10 minute short film. It could also be a reference to how, in therapy, to work through and move on from something they often recommend journaling and processing your feeling through writing.

"Then the actors
Were hitting their marks
And the slow dance
Was alight with the sparks
And the tears fell
In synchronicity with the score
And at last
She knew what the agony had been for"

This seems to reference directing the short film and watching the actors portray this painful defining experience from her past and realizing that all of the pain she went through gave her this: the manuscript, her art.
"Now and then I reread the manuscript
But the story isn't mine anymore"
Taylor has said multiple times over the years that the songs she writes start out as her feelings and experiences that she is processing through writing but once they go out into the world and the fans start listening to and experiencing those songs and making them theirs, the stories are no longer hers. She gives us her stories and we make them ours.
This is why I feel that this song is a great closer, because its not necessarily a song so much as a reminder to the fans that all of the emotion on this album that she has poured out is no longer her's, it's ours. It's for us to take in and attach our feelings and experiences too.

So High School isn't one of my favs, but knowing she wrote it for her current boyfriend makes me appreciate it more. Most of TTPD is so sad and heavy, I appreciate her putting this song and The Alchemy on it for the sole purpose of reminding us she's in a good place now. My heart needed it at that point haha

For me, So High School sounds the way it does because that’s the way music sounded when she was in high school. It’s time-fitting. It doesn’t fit in with the rest of the songs musically, but it wouldn’t fit anywhere really. Because it’s not the early 2000’s anymore. I know you know this lol but. If for some reason anyone in the comments may be new to Taylor lol

I think Robin actually makes a ton of sense in the context of the album. There’s so much on the album about feeling like her youth was stolen in so many ways either by relationships that made her grow up too fast, or wasted her time or fame/the industry. Same with So High School, it feels like she’s saying she feels she’s got her whole life ahead of her again while on a lot of the songs she was despairing about feeling like she wasn’t going to get marriage and kids like she wanted.

You don't have to apologize for a stream where it really did seem like you were cursed. You did a great job of keeping it together and pulling off a thoughtful, authentic reaction in spite of all the technical issues. Bravo.

I like Anthology more than the first half. The story, lyrics, everything was so damn good

This man is so smart and lovely

I’m so sorry the crazy swifties came for you! I truly love hearing YOUR interpretations and break downs 🙌🏻

Peter is perfection. Where How Did It End was a juxtaposition of time signatures, Peter has this stunning, piano driven, almost relentless waltz lilt that just mirrors all the optimism of youth. And then she way that she slows down and breaks that momentum is equally impactful.

On Folklore there is a fictional track that isn't about Peter Pan... But the bridge includes the lyric "Peter losing Wendy".

Foreshadowing a song 3 albums into the future is... Mental 😂 she's mental!

Keep in mind that Taylor's fanbase ranges from literal children to grandparents and older.

Some Swifties are kind of rabid and think they have to defend her or are in possession of all the "correct" interpretations of her songs.

But there are tons of sane, kind, thoughtful people in the fanbase, too. Hopefully you encounter more of that type!

Just remember friend: the EXTREME majority of viewers appreciate your honesty and can respect when our opinons differ...we just arent as impassionated as the 1% of negative-comment-leavers. I'm sorry that you're experiencing a lot of negative interactions on your Taylor content, I'm disappointed that's been your experience.

I've really appreciated your analysis on many of these songs, bro -- that whole take in the Albatross where you analyzed the "Devils that you know, raise more hell than a stanger" line, gave me insight and context and connetions I just didn't have. Thanks!

Peace friend ☮️

On the black dog she says "up until recently i was" which made me think they just broke up and he was already out with someone at a bar and she happened to see because he forgot to stop sharing his location with her.

Yes, Cassandra is about Kanye etc but I don’t care about that. I am just obsessed with the fact she wrote a song from the perspective of a Kassandra of Troy.

It’s so nerdy. Top tier, elite level Taylor on her Taylor bullshit. I love it and her.

Thank you for getting it. I think your interpretation is great.

For me, the difference between the Olivia Rodrigo song and imgoingtogetyouback is that Olivia wants to do both. Taylor is just undecided, but it's going to be one of them, not both.

I am absolutely an immediate fan ! You are absolutely a"Hoot". No pretense, no fan BS. You say what is your concise ,full on open throttle to your reaction & analysis! 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🥂 Cheers.

I love your Beatles reference 😂😂😂 Taylor and Paul McCartney are actually good friends and respect each other's artistry. Paul is a huge Taylor fan!

Ik im a bit late but there is in fact an entire subsection of Taylor swift fans called swemos, current or former emos who fw Taylor. I would KILL for a pop punk/rock album from her 🖤

For The Black Dog... I don't know if you can hear it,  but she actually inhales on the last syllable of the last "screaming" 😭😭😭

I don't think this is a cheating scenario. "Until recent events" and "6 weeks of breathing clean air" makes me think this is just after the break up. Btw, she has an incredible song on the 1989 album called Clean that is just quintessential emo 😬

I think your man's trotting into a bar that was one of their favourite spots (I do think she chose The Black Dog because it's also a euphemism for depression. They had plenty of spots she could have used in a song instead) like a cocky Jack Russell thinking, "I don't need to be with Taylor to enjoy this place." And then shit just does down the whole evening that reminds him of her like a shank to the gut and eventually he has to leave with his tail between his legs cause he is actually heartbroken too.
