This is the fourth episode of my Dating in Cambodia series, and this time we hear directly from one of the women working inside Phnom Penh’s hostess-bar world.
For the first part of the video, I sit down with a hostess inside the bar and give her the opportunity to talk about the job from her own perspective — the customers, the money, relationships, expectations and what life inside this world is actually like.
Then I return to my conversation with the bar owner from the previous episode, continuing our discussion about the business, the women who work there, the men who visit, and the complicated line between work, money, companionship and genuine relationships.
Throughout this series, my intention has been to approach these subjects openly and without judgement.
I’ve lived in Cambodia for more than 21 years, and one thing I’ve learned is that people, relationships and motivations rarely fit neatly into simple categories.
This episode does not claim to represent every hostess, every bar owner or every hostess bar in Cambodia. These are the experiences and opinions of the people who agreed to speak with me, and I wanted to give viewers the chance to hear those perspectives directly.

I hope you can interview at some hostess bars in kampot,
Looking from the outside in, one main thing that bother me is the recurrent situations: the male counterpart has to shoulder the financial responsibility for her whole extent family, thus one can ask where is the place of genuine feelings between them? His values to her is his financial capabilities.
In the long run it might run thin for him as well.
Hat off to this bar owner as he brings in the human side with eyes wide open dealing with his ladies workers.
Also, if girls are trying to save up to start other careers, what about giving them loans or invest into their “salon” for example….?
