It would’ve been sick if homelander used a shapeshifter as bait, explaining why “he” was weak in the fight, only for him to walk in and taunt Butcher and Kimiko after they blasted the fake homelander. But that would require much of the finale being rewritten. They wrote themselves into a corner here, and had to nerf him beyond comprehension. Shame, Antony Star deserved a better finale to act in.
genuinely find it so funny that the supe characters are referred to almost exclusively as their supe names solely because when you started talking about "Reggie" I was like ??? who????
As much as Frenchie does make crude jokes or is more humorous than the rest of The Boys, he’s also one of the most intellectual and profound. The writers could have easily made him write about his abuse, how The Boys made him feel whole, etc. with maybe a quote from a poem (Personally I think Reflection by R.S Thomas would be good but I believe it would be more in character if it were a French poem). I’m not a writer but they practically had this in the bag for a moment that could have been genuinely emotional. Instead they opted for potty humour literally the scene after he sacrifices himself for the greater good. Talk about tonal whiplash.
The writing was on the wall midway through season three. I honestly don’t even really remember what happened in season four. I feel like the show could have been rewritten into a three season series and it would’ve ended on a pretty high note.
They teased so much for this season, ranging from Gen V to earlier seasons, only to not utilize a ton of what they teased. I have a hard time buying an excuse when they knew several seasons back that the main series was planned to end in S5
My canon is Soldier boy was able to blast off homie and ryan in s3 ep8, homies gets manhunted by the locals, ryan being a natural supe doesn't die and helps butcher and maeve make soldier boy go back to sleep .
Yeah the CG getting noticeably worse was something that really bothered me as the show went on, and that Maeve scene in episode one is the perfect example of this.
The effects in that shot are flawless, and it proved early on that the creatives behind the show were capable of shooting competent action; which made it all the more disappointing to see that competency wither away until there was nothing left by the final season.
The Maeve shot in episode one was powerful and memorable, it's a shot that's so badass it sticks with you. There wasn't a single memorable scene or visual like that in the entirety of seasons 4 or 5. Everything in the final two seasons just looks cheap and generic.
The MAIN reason Reggie couldn't control himself is that he was high as balls. Him being sober enough to effortlessly avoid people would show his growth plenty. I like his death, but him just, being competent because he's staying sober, would've been better.
My response to the peaks death is yes he has a bullet proof skin but not a bullet proof booty and octopi tend to go for holes for leverage rather than ridges
The worst part about wasting the gen v kids was the fact that the shows reasoning for it, was the fact that Marie can't control her powers. That is stated by Annie. "What good are your powers if you can't control them" I believe the line was. The thing is that the ENTIRETY of season 2 of gen v is about Annie learning to control her powers. Just makes no sense
15:20 i'll completly disagree on this. They butchered the actual writting of the show in favor of basic bitch political messaging. The plot point of the "supe terrorists" (actually real and plausible) and in general the reveal of compound V's formula not going anywhere in favor of this was a obvious red flag for the downfall of the writting
The rot set in season 3, been a downward spiral since. Ending was Kriptke masturbation of "Orange man bad". 'Doesn't make sense" should be the motto for this show
Im gonna be the one to say it because i guess nobody else is. Homelander begging is out of character. Completely. I get that everyone seems to like it, but it has been shown time and time again that when he is challenged or threatened he lashes out in anger. He is also delusional and has vivid hallucinations. That was shown in this season. He has a god complex. He literally claims to be god. Everything about his character leads to one end. He believes he is superior in every way. When someone like him has their power taken, do you GENUINELY think they do any self reflection? Do you think they suddenly understand? Do you think they suddenly beg? No. That would insinuate that their entire characterization was acting even to them. Which it wasn't. He isnt the fucking Mandarin from iron man 2. He would have lashed out if we are being honest with his psychology. He would have refused to believe he was depowered at all. He would have kept punching even if it didnt work. And it would have been more gore heavy if he did. He would have broken his hands on Butcher (or nearby objects if Butcher dodged) until his last breath. So...you have to come to the conclusion that the writers had him beg not for the story's sake and not for the characters sake, but for their own sake. They did it so they could have a humiliation ritual and an assassination fantasy on someone that they already went out of their way to scream about not liking.
