Utrecht native here:
There are honestly many famous sandwich shops in Utrecht (broodje Mario is the one that started everything I think)

Some recent discoveries of mine are very close together:
Hooft by Breunesse Delicatesse and
Tutti a Tavola

Both are in the 'Burgemeester Reigerstraat' Between the city theater (Stadsschouwburg) and the Wilhelmina park.

Yes, the weather has been really great these past few days! Nice to see you two roaming Utrecht again! I was at Autotron yesterday and today, bought a lot of water plants, bought a lot of fish food and bought a lot of fish I intend to breed.

I was there at the beginning of the broodje Mario tent on the Oude Gracht at the shop side some 30-40 years ago. Their broodje now looks like a shadow of what they once were: two slices of Gouda cheese sticking out abundantly of the pizza dough bun, slices of salami and chorizo, bell pepper, green pepper, olives and more. They were the only one to gain permission to stay in a tent on the Oude Gracht. It was a goldmine. Also they had a lot of trouble with the tax department, a lot of black money going on with all the cash payments. It was news back then

That is one of the best places in Utrecht - Casa Ferreira is a Portuguese bakery. But they have some snacks and sweets from Brszil too.

coxinha and brigadeiro mentioned in the video are from Brasil. Coxinha could be inspired by others snacks but is from Brasil

Utrecht is a great city. Glad you like it. I would love to see you explore more of the smaller cities. For example Woerden, Zeist, Nieuwegein/Houten are just a couple minutes out by train (if they dom't experience failure ofc) and have so much to offer as well

If you go to Zwolle, go there for a few days and use it as a base to visit Kampen (the shortest train track in the Netherlands) and Hattem, where you can find the Anton Pieck Museum (designer of the Efteling).

so true broodje Mario is an institute. Is soo good!
Brings back memories when they were in a car/tent at the beginning corner of the Oude Gracht, near the Oude Gracht castle.
Tip: in the Netherlands, always choose ‘salami’ on buns or pizza. It’s much better than pepperoni. In general pepperoni is not very nice.

Go try broodje Maria from La Ciabatta next then! That place has a hood selection including their variant on Mario but is also very well priced. Plus while the lines look big, they do work very fast and everything is freshly made instead of what Maria does (prepare in advance)

If you ever come again. You have to eat “kapsalon”. A kapsalon is a popular Dutch fast-food dish consisting of a take-away tray layered with fries, döner or shawarma meat, and melted cheese, topped with a fresh salad and a combination of garlic sauce and sambal

The best one you have at “ons Eethuis” chose the one with chicken thigh. It’s delicious

If you get to Drenthe again you must try a Drents kontje, or Beiler kontje since it was originally from the town Beilen. It's a really nice gebakje

You can also eat really good coxinha at Punk Dog in BD studio's in Utrecht, Made by a Brazilian who also moved to the Netherlands. Their food is amazing!
