The phrase. “ your eyes are bigger than your belly” just means that you filled your plate with more food than you can eat.  ❤

The way soap operas get new viewers is that most of the dialogue over explains relations and the story so you can jump in anytime and sort of understand the storylines

"Your eyes are bigger than your belly"
I am not sure, but it reminds me of a danish saying that would mean you have put too much on your plate, because you 'Ate with your eyes'.

20:11  Pausing it on Sean towards his end 😢 knowing what he knew but still there making people laugh 👏

Well most actor just won't leave a show like William  Roache who's been playing Ken Barlow in Corrie for over 65 years. He was 28 when he started now he is 94.

I had just left school when Countdown first aired. I am now sixty, so yeah, when Brits fixate on a show it sticks around.

Since you asked the question, Jimmy's a pretty regular contestant on QI. If you are curious about random stuff and you obviously dig Panel Shows, it's worth a watch.

23:48 I swear I saw him in The Goonies.

in Britain, College is what you do after school, but before Uni.
So he went to college, but not uni

'Coronation Street' has the actor WIlliam Roache, who's on it since the first episode, 66 years ago.

It's weird, I remember some of these scenes carrying on and actually getting funnier but they stupidly cropped them.

I looked up the "Eyes bigger than your belly" phrase and it's fascinating, it's something so old that linguists can't really trace it's origins, it still exists in some form in most Germanic/Nordic languages (German is identical to the English), in a lot of Slavic languages and also in Hungarian and Romanian, and apparently it didn't spread between those but was rather inherited from common cultural origins.
It was a thing in more Romance languages but in French and Italian it mostly died out and in Spanish and Portuguese there's no trace of it.

Either later in the episode here or another, someone actually draws a stache on their thumb and it absolutely looks like Sam Simmons.

Countdown was the first show on Channel 4.

The Archers, a radio soap, started in 1950.

The World's longest running soap opera is the Archers which has been running since January 1951 and it is on British radio. None of the original actors are still alive .

You should watch clips of 8 out of 10 cats . It was on years before 8 out of 10 cats does countdown . Sean was so funny and brutal in that 😂😂

The soap mimics life, new characters new viewers, the stories represent the time, characters move in, move out, they are born they die

16:31 🤣 Mandy you shouldn't hold that facial expression to long you might freeze like that forever

One of the longest running soaps, Coronation Street is just about an area in the north of England so like any street people come and go and when people die they write it into the script

15:47 Jimmy Carr has also been on the panel of QI

Doctor Who has 892 episodes and it only does a shortish season every couple of years. But Coronation street has nearly 12000 episodes

5:40 you just have to accept that you will never know all the lore, you just have to jump in and learn backwards as the story develops lol

Joe makes himself laugh every word that he says 😅 his skill is masking it
