30:38 Beni only manages to say  "Do not hide Your face from me" in Hebrew. The full verse is "Do not hide Your face from me; Do not turn Your servant away in anger; You have been my help; Do not leave me nor forsake me, O God of my salvation."

To us 90’s kids The Mummy was like our Indiana Jones. And the spin-off cartoon on Kids WB was just as amazing. Also Rachel Weisz as Evie was one of my first crushes ever. Seriously, the scene of when she shows up in the black Egyptian clothing with the veil still takes my breath away😍😍. And the fact that she is a bookish nerd who becomes a badass bookish nerd in the next movie is why she is one of my favorite female protagonists.

I remember reading a lot of comments from people saying when they saw Jonathan chanting that slow "Imhotep" for the first time in theaters, everybody died laughing.

11:28 during a first watch, it's very subtle, how the curator intentionally burns the map. You focus on the dialogue and don't notice how he slowly moves the piece of paper towards the fire.

47:37  “Pair a deuce, pair a deuce.”
😳Four of a kind.  Son of a gun, she beat him with a better poker hand.

Fun Fact! Brendan Fraser almost died filming the neck hanging scene! He was actually choking and passed out in an outtake. He jokes about it to this day and says they tried to kill me 😅

Such a great film, reminds of a time long past in Hollywood, glad your reacting to this!

Bedazzled with Brendan Frasier 😆

During Beni's first meeting with Imhotep, the fact that he prayed in Hebrew was what actually saved him - Imhotep remarks "the language of the slaves" - a reference to the bible event.

Arnold Vosloo (Imhoteph) performs here a very great villain.

One of the few perfect movies in existence.

And in case anyone cares - The arab Ardeth Bay is also the narrator at the beginning (something I myself didn't realise until about the 3rd viewing of the film!). So he was always going to turn up alive and yet that always seems to come as a surprise to viewers, like it did here.

51:50 not only did Rick and Evelyn get together, we also have at least 1 satchel full of treasure!
Thank you for the exceptional reaction, commentary and discussion, you did such a good job ❤

OMG whilst deployed with the army in 2000 we were positioned on a hill for 3 months and this was one of half a dozen movies (VHS tapes) we had. I must have watched it Lord knows how many times. I think it was almost on repeat in the rec tent every time I went past.

The late 1990s and early 2000s were the best time of adventure movies. The Mummy, The Mask of Zorro, The Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter.

Fun fact, in the scene where they all go for a swim and come walking out of the Nile, Evelyn's nightgown is CGI. Somehow no one noticed that the gown became completely see through when wet. By the time someone DID notice, it was when they were reviewing the film after all the shooting was long since finished. Since they couldn't leave the nudity in for multiple reasons, someone had to go back frame by frame and paint the dress opaque.

The Mummy is one of my favorite movies. I love Rachel Weisz as the brainy, beautiful leading lady, Brendan Fraser as the adventurous man of action, and Arnold Vosloo as the chief villain. Also, they did get the mummification practices correct when Evelyn described how ancient Egyptians removed people's brains (minus a slight omission): The embalmers used the hook to also punch a hole in the person's skull so the brain drained out when they were rolled over. And I always get jumpscared when Jonathan is toying around in that damned sarcophagus, no matter how many times I've seen the movie.

Side trivia:

1.  In the scene introducing her as Ankh-su-namun, model/actress Patricia Velásquez was completely naked with the exception of a loin cloth, a few pieces of jewelry, pasties & body paint (body paint took four hours to apply).

2. Brendan Fraser revealed in an episode of “The Kelly Clarkson Show” that he had a near-death experience during a stunt gone wrong while filming “The Mummy.” The Oscar winner said he was “choked out accidentally” during the scene in which he had to be hanged from the gallows in the Egyptian prison, which resulted in him being resuscitated by on-set medical personnel.

3. In the desert race to Hamunaptra, you see camels and horses. Horses are faster (on flat land), but camels are adapted to life in the sandy deserts. Even though they do eventually have to eat and drink, camels can live off the fat reserves inside their humps, their long eyelashes keep dust out of their eyes, and their feet are big and wide to keep them from sinking into the sand as they move.

4.  After Evelyn unknowingly awakens Imhotep by reading The Book Of The Dead (which is actually a funerary scroll in real life) and the locust swarm flies into the encampment at Hamunaptra, the locusts crawling on the Egyptologist are actually grasshoppers that were refrigerated to make them sluggish. On a similar note, the scarabs in real life were merely dung beetles, not vicious flesh eaters.

7:30 we can see how both Rick and Beni are introduced in this scene and thier characters stay consistent throughout the movie - Rick always carries a small arsenal around with him, shooting his way out of problems and Beni...well, Beni runs and is wildly lucky right until his greed finally surpasses his luck.
