I once met Morgan Freeman in Merrion Square hotel Dublin Ireland. I said hello Mr Freeman as I shook his hand. He said, Son dont call me Mr Freeman, my parents christened me Morgan, please call me Morgan. He gave me his time and i will never forget it… this one of the greatest movies ever made

"Get busy living or get busy dying" is alllllllmost as inspirational as "If not now then when?"
😬

“Salvation lies within.” Andy’s salvation literally lied within the Bible with his rock hammer.
And if you notice, it’s hidden in the Exodus chapter of the Bible. Which is about Israel's escape from slavery in Egypt. Andy was escaping his own slavery.

It makes me feel good to see these ladies feel good about this movie.  They have good hearts, and I hope Bulgaria protects these ladies.

Interesting story, Tom Hanks was the first actor they wanted for Andy but he turned it down in favor of Forrest Gump, which came out the same year. Tom Hanks would end up working with director Frank Darabont a few years later in The Green Mile, another Stephen King book adaptation. Two incredible movies.

I like how, in the scene where Red comes to the meadow with the tree, a harmonica sounds in the soundtrack — an instrument that symbolizes Andy and Red’s friendship and which hasn’t appeared in the score at all until now, except for that one tentative note in the cell.

I love Tim Robbins performance, the performance of Morgan Freeman and his film narration. Such a great movie. 🎥 🍿 🥹

This film will always hold a special place in my heart because it's the very first time I've ever cried tears of joy while watching a movie. It's the kind of film that makes you think, "Damn, a film can make me feel like this ?"
🥰🥰

Story time. In my late teens I worked at a store in a small mall, and one day, as we are closing, I'm standing holding the gate up waiting to shut it as the last customers file out, and there's a little crowd of coworkers around a customer at the register, and I'm getting irritated because I'm just standing there waiting holding this thing up while they're all chatting. So it breaks up and the customer walks toward the gate. Really tall guy. I'm like 5'9 so I gotta raise the gate way up to let him under. He kinda nods at me, and I give him a half-hearted nod back because really in my mind I'm like, "okay, dude, get the f out. Thanks for leaving me standing here." lol As he ducks under, I almost lose my grip on the gate but catch it, he nods again and leaves. I walk over to the register and everybody's all excited like "you know who that was? Tim Robbins!" And I'm standing there feeling foolish because I didn't even remotely recognize him and he's the lead in my favorite movie of all time. lol So yeah, once I almost dropped a gate on Tim Robbins. fml

Words just cannot express the moment of the dawning realisation of horror on Norton and the guard's faces after he throws the rock through the poster and then tears it away, staring at the hole. ❤️

For the last 31 years everyone who saw this movie knows him by the name of Shawshank Redemption , but in movie site platforms people named this cinematic picture like this - 6 oscar nominations and zero winnings , it is truly shocking how the greatest cinematic picture of all time gets robbed. The cast in this movie are magical , script is mind blowing for the last 31 years , so many life lessons you can find in this movie. My favorite line from this movie is this , which also is very good in real life - get busy living or get busy dying. Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins both portrayed very well their characters and showed everyone that true friendship never dies ❤❤❤❤

There was a comment made during the scene of the conversation between Red and Heywood while they were in the prison yard and seated on bleachers (around the 18:35 mark), w/ Red stating that Brooks probably couldn't obtain a library card even if he tried upon his release. About five yrs after this film was issued theatrically, I was employed @ the Malibu Public Library and working the circulation desk. One day while I was on staff, the actor James Whitmore enters into the premises, makes his way over to where I'm situated and, after acclimating himself to the new surroundings, he states that he'd been residing in that particular city for thirty yrs and that this was the very first occasion that he actually made a point of visiting the local library there. So I registered him right on the spot. And therefore, I personally would like to believe that "Brooks Hatlen" did, in fact, receive his library card after all.

This is such a wonderful movie.  Andy got $370,000 in 1964, which would be almost 4 million today

5:00 That is ACTUALLY nicknamed "The Castle" by the people who live in the area. I grew up 10 miles north of where this "castle" is. The Castle was a maximum-security prison in Mansfield, Ohio called The Ohio State Reformatory. They kept some pretty bad characters in that place too. The opening shot is the actual prison in Mansfield and most of the movie was filmed on the premises. It has been closed for many years now, but they have tours now that you can go on to check it out.

This is definitely one of my favorite films. How everthing set up at the beginning wraps up at the end but also in-between it really humanizes the prisoners and they achieve growth even if they didn't all make it out.

For context I think it’s important to be aware that prison life in America in the 1940’s and 50’s was much different than today. There were no advocacy groups or anyone fighting for inmates rights. There was extensive abuse and no accountability on the part of the prison officials.

Great Movie. The elderly actor who played Brooks the librarian who later hung himself, was the great James Whitmore who acted from the 40’s through the 2000’s. If you like campy sci-fi’s he’s in a movie titled “Them!”. A good watch…

The movie originally ended with the scene  of Red on the bus, it was left to the audience to imagine he and Andy meeting up. But the test audiences said they felt they needed to see it, I can see it both ways, you need the catharsis of the ending as it is now. But its also somewhat poetic in the original.

In order to play a guard as mean as Byron Hadley, Clancy Brown had to remind himself that the character was actually an amalgam of the worst parts of prison guards, and that the story was being told from Red's point of view. Red wouldn't be able to paint them as nice guys, having been an inmate for so long.

Stephen King, who wrote the novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption for his collection Different Seasons that this movie was based on, actually declared it as one of his favorite adaptations.
