As a 48yr old black woman who absolutely loves rock. I had the same reaction to this song. It was WTF, then whoa and WHAT!

That first "why do they always send the poor" is so fucking visceral and nasty, one of the best vocals I've ever heard in anything.

Your turned me on to System of a Down. 🤗 I'm 67 years old, my first concert was Led Zeppelin in 1970! 😁 System of a Down is like nothing I've ever heard! 🤔 The vocals whether loud and coarse or smooth and silky are fabulous. The guitar rifts are unigue on every song and they go all out on every song. The bass and drums drive the beat into your brain! Incredible band ! ❤️ Thank you for this gift and for all the times you allowed me to reminisce about my life through the classic rock you react to. Great show! Keep on rockin'! 😆

That was the longest “Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh” I’ve heard so far 😂 I listened to it a good 10 times at least!

When you figure out that this song is all about the USA's war for oil after 9/11, and how it's always the poor that enlist, it gets quite a bit darker.

Hahahahahah. You reacted perfectly at 1:22.. "Our new metalhead is getting deeper into our dark world! hehehheehe"

System Of A Down
Why do they always send the poor?
Barbarisms by barbaras
With pointed heels
Victorious victorious kneel
For brand new spankin' deals
Marching forward hypocritic and
Hypnotic computers
You depend on our protection
Yet you feed us lies from the tablecloth
Everybody's going to the party, have a real good time
Dancing in the desert, blowing up the sunshine
Kneeling roses disappearing into
Moses' dry mouth
Breaking into fort knox stealing
Our intentions
Hangers sitting dripped in oil
Crying freedom
Handed to obsoletion
Still you feed us lies from the tablecloth
Everybody's going to the party, have a real good time
Dancing in the desert, blowing up the sunshine
Everybody's going to the party, have a real good time
Dancing in the desert, blowing up the sunshine
Blast off!
It's party time!
And we don't live in a fascist nation!
Blast off!
It's party time!
And where the fuck are you?
Where the fuck are you?
Where the fuck are you?
Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why don't presidents fight the war?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?
Why do they always send the poor?

Dancing in the desert, blowing up the sun

This song has the “This is America” feel to it in that the “everybody’s going to the party...” part makes you want to dance & be happy, while the rest of the lyrics are all very deep and political. But in this world, we’d rather enjoy the vibe than listen to the messages. And it works! Everyone always vibes & dances at that part, and in “This is America” if you didn’t watch the video or listen closely to the words it has the same effect. SOAD were so ahead of their time 👌🏽
