Thanks for all the lovely feedback. I’m glad that people have been enjoying the video.

A lot of people have asked what is the Drum and Bass track playing whilst I carry out the repairs.

The track is called:
Dududu by Ikhana
I’m subscribed to epidemic sounds and get all of the music and sound effects from there.

Something about being warm and dry during a cold, stormy night is the most relaxing thing ever.

The weird urge to suddenly become a lighthouse maintenance worker...

My father, Hedley Thomas, was Principal Keeper at Longships from 1964-70, after which we were posted up to Penlee Point off Plymouth where he took over supervision of the Eddystone and its move towards automation. Prior to that, the family had lived over in Bishop's Rock on the Scillies, then Holyhead (Anglesea), when dad was on the Mumbles; then Whitby (Fog signal station), before moving down to Sennen Cove. Living on a light is not for everyone; you have to be able to handle solitude, more than anything else. I remember those bloody uncomfortable curved wooden beds, and how we kids would watch the storms from the Trinity cottages on the nearby cliffs, as the waves crashed over the entire Longships tower. Before the days of easy communication, my mother used to lean out of the bedroom window when the visibility was good, and semaphore across the water with red flags. She used to swear one letter at a time. Such a long time ago. So many stories.

I like how the tower just has a door to... lo and behold, a drop to your certain death

Props to the men who actually went out in rowboats, hauled all the equipment, built the damn thing in all sorts of weather. Amazing. Technically the time between 1974 and 1988 is not actually ‘shortly thereafter’.

Video like this are why I'm addicted to YouTube. Fascinating stuff.

I´m a lighthouse maiinntenance guy from germany. It`s interesting hoow similar and yet different my job is compared to yours. We rarely stay at the towers, since ours can be reached daily with ships. Also we (my dpeartment) mostly do electrical work, while others do maintenance and repairs on structual components, such as the safety nets. Though we ( as a whole) rarely get to climb our towers to do work, because of paralizing safety regulations, that keep us from maintaining the towers thouroughly. I`m split between wishing the germman government woulg care about our marine infrastructure apart from ports, but all we have is 30-60 Years old, rotten and full of bird droppings. But seeing your video gives me a sense of pride about my job, seeing i`m not alone in this line of work, the curiositiys and hardships (and the Bird shit).

It’s amazing how strong this lighthouse is to withstand hundreds of years of storms!

Excellent.

This is some of the best content I have seen in a while. Whenever I can get a glimpse into a life I know nothing about, I am like a moth to a light. I cant look away.

I don't know why this came up in my feed but I'm glad it did.
I've seen and experienced some absolutely jaw dropping weather being a Scot but honestly the idea of waves overtopping a 35m lighthouse is just mind-boggling!
Stay safe and thank you for keeping seafarers safe.

A yes, the long awaited sequel to "Don't dead, open inside."

"Living during on A A lighthouse storm" Amazing.

"Living during on a a lighthouse storm" 😂😂😂 I really thought I had completely lost it there until I realised 😂

Storm Goretti HAMMERED Cornwall. Trees down everywhere, Villages cut off entirely and electrical transformers were exploding lighting up the sky blue. Many said the worst storm in Cornwall EVER.
To be out on that lighthouse during that storm must have a very serious situation. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

Funny how comforting it is sleeping in a storm. Always love it.

Loved the video!! When you mentioned you had a good sleep the stormy night I felt like I had to mention one of my own little quirks; I sleep the absolute best when weather's rough and winds are blowing. I grew up with a father who was a ship captain and whenever the weather was rough he would stay up and keep watch even if other men were the ones officially on watch and whenever I was with him I always felt like the ship was unsinkable as long as he was up so that safety and remembering his comforting words is what I feel every time the weather gets rough. I hope he somehow knows what a strong impression he had on me wherever he is now and know he'll always be remembered.

I constantly fumble and drop Allen wrenches when building ikea furniture so your ability to use an Allen wrench and other hand tools a hundred feet up without losing them to the sea below is remarkable lol

Me, from Algeria, in bed over a heated blanket, watching this at 2am.... Cooooozzyyy

As a former seafarer thank you for what you do.
